  1. Shatter is a brilliant expansion to traditional arcade-style gameplay, and how often can you say that a new contender has improved on a classic?
  2. In short, Shatter is a really enjoyable re-imagining of a time-tested genre that adds the fun of physics, snazzy graphics, and a phenomenal soundtrack to a favorite classic.
  3. If you have enjoyed any version of Arkanoid, or Breakout, then Shatter is worth a purchase. It might even be worth it for some people that don’t even enjoy the genre that much, it is that good.
  4. Shatter, whether the original PSN version or this updated PC one, is a solid game and well worth the price.
  5. Whether your interest is massive or mild, I highly recommend giving Shatter a try. It reminds us what we love most about the genre, and maintains excitement rather than prolonging itself to uncomfortable limits.
  6. 85
Shatter is a solid little number, with loads of features to guarantee replayability, and the sort of manic speediness that you would naturally expect from a game where you smash things into little bits for fun.
  7. 83
If you are a fan of this genre then you will love Shatter to bits (bad joke, I know), but even if you don't like these 'break out' type affairs, giving Shatter a go would really be worth your time.
  8. Shatter’s Story Mode is really just an appetizer. Additional modes are the most addictive things in this game.
  9. It's fairly priced and deserves to be enjoyed for all of its arcadey goodness.
  10. Arkanoid at heart, Arkanoid on the exterior. Modern looks and playability turn this historical concept into a fresh and addictive experience. [Issue#191]
  11. Clones of Breakout and Arkanoid may be a dime a dozen, but Shatter is the best one yet. The physics system adds a nice twist to a classic concept, and the music is amazing.
  12. Shatter is brick breaking at its best--simple, innovative, and beautiful.
  13. It's not a whole lot of replay value, but it's something — and for a $10 retro-inspired arcade-style game, that certainly doesn't suck. Or blow.

Shatter is one of those games that might slip through generations, as the Breakout/Arkanoid formula has all but disappeared from the gaming landscape. But as modern remakes of classics like Galaga, Pac Man, and Space Invaders have shown, these titles can be successfully updated while remaining their core gameplay. Available on both PS3 and PC (Through Steam), Shatter is the definitive modern Paddle/Ball game. Boasting a story mode which takes you through gorgeous stages with an incredible soundtrack, this mode does a great job of introducing you to the mechanics. Once you complete story though, youâ Full Review »

This game may look like it's just "Breakout", but it's so much more. They add in a lot of different elements - different kinds of bricks and balls, power ups, even excellent boss battles. The music is also some excellent electonica (they sell it separately on their site). The effect of the graphics and music together is mesmerizing, it's a pretty entrancing experience. Full Review »
