Is there a perfect thing in this world? I am sure not! With this in mind, skyborn is one of the most interesting games for 90's RPG lovers. Besides the fact that Dancing Dragons used a non-professional engine, the game has beautiful graphics, an involving story, and nice characters. So, I totally recommend the game for those who are looking for something newly refreshing.
GREAT RPG! Pleasant enough graphics and map design. Intriguing story with characters and depth to match. You'll be thinking final fantasy as this goes along without the lengthy cutscenes. A great addition to the genre and definitely worth 5-10 hrs of your time.
Although lacking in some of the combat mechanics, this game is a pleasant surprise to a dying genre. Never before have I wanted to experience a JRPG in such a way in the last 3 years. Truly the best JRPG of the year.
Skyborn is not free of mistakes, but what it does wrong, it makes up for in charm. It is also the greatest commercial RPGMaker release currently available on Steam.
Pros:
+ The maps are gorgeous, and proof that RPGMaker assets can be used to create beautiful scenery that **** the player into the characters' world.
+ The first few hours of story flow flawlessly. Cutscenes and dialog are compelling and, again, draw the player into the game world.
+ The characters have charming personalities that do not fall into rigid jRPG stereotypes.
+ Plenty of subquests, if you feel so inclined.
Cons:
- One of the dungeons is so long that it disrupted the game's flow, and made me more anxious to try to get through it as quickly as possible instead of explore it.
- The shop interface does not compare the weapon/armor sold to what is currently equipped by the characters.
- Like many other games of this genre, plot twists toward the end create a "What just happened?" vibe that feel a bit impromptu/hurried.
- The easy mode is ridiculously easy, while the normal mode may as well be a hard mode (with the hard mode being a 'harder' mode.)
I like this old school RPG game!
---
PRO:
1) Really nice story (and characters)
2) Nice 2D Graphics
3) Good musics/sounds
4) Nice artwork for each characters
---
CON:
1) Not so original
2) Armor/Weapon Upgrade/Craft System to be improved
3) Impossible to compare new Armor/Weapon with owned Armor/Weapon when you buy it
4) Few bugs! (Do not try to equip an armor to Claret when she already equipped the "final armor suite"...)
5) Longevity; only 5/6 hours of story. BUT you can do some long subquest.
It's an okay game if you like RPG Maker. But I'm really not a fan of long dialogue-reading segments and unintellectual turn-taking combat and slowly walking around.
SummaryLife under the rule of the winged Skyborn race isn't so bad for Claret Spencer, the star mechanic of an independent repair shop. She can patch up just about anything...but when a certain cravat-wearing customer turns her life upside-down, she finds herself pulled into an epic, city-wide conflict that's going to take a lot more than elbow...
