Smash Cars has managed to make an RC racer believer out of me. While I doubt I will be running to my hobby shop to invest in a $200 RC truck or car (one that I would probably break my first time out) I will certainly be spending countless hours driving these miniature racers in one of the best PS2 racing games I have played this year.
It is fun, plain and simple. Any fan of racing games should give this one a try, at least as a rental. I promise a worthwhile experience.
Smash Cars isn't going to appeal to everyone, but its easy-to-pick-up style of play, often absurdly amusing level design, and budget price tag make it a worthwhile purchase or rental for any RC or kart racing fan.
If games like "R/C Pro Am" or "Re-Volt" sound like your idea of the perfect racing game, however, Metro 3D's little speedster could be made for you. [Aug 2003, p.32]
Offers no meaningful reason why you should pick it up over other four-wheeled fun. $30 price tag or no, with better titles like "Re-Volt" buried in bargain bins across the nation, you're better off making tracks in a different direction.
The RC-racing theme has been done better by other games, the trick levels feel bolted on rather than being integral to gameplay, and they're also very limited.
The visuals are a throwback to the early days of PS2, if not Dreamcast. [Aug 2003, p.91]

Summary No rules radio-controlled racing through living off-road worlds with giant objects, giant animals and giant people. Multiple shortcuts hidden on the tracks make for a more exciting racing and add more intrigue to overcoming opponents.
