  1. Web of Shadows is an improvement over previous Spider-Man titles, but still lacks the punch we expect from such a popular movie-based intellectual property. A poorly told story coupled with mediocre and often repetitive action sequences have thwarted this titles chances of blockbuster glory this Christmas.
  2. Only go buy this game if you are a die-hard Spiderman fan, or have an unhealthy obsession with bad voice acting.
  3. Don’t get me wrong, Web of Shadows is unquestionably better than Spider-Man 3 was. But again Treyarch fails at porting the game from consoles to PC.
  4. Running, jumping, flying, smashing faces - that's superheroes' job description, right? But they usually have a reason to do it, a reason sorely lacking in this game. Unless it's just the aggression caused by the frustration caused by the general want of sense in life. [Jan 2009]
  5. It’s true, the web-slinging is fun, and swinging between rooftops never gets old. However, the game is dragged down by mindless combat that grinds on and on and on.

Web of Shadows has its moments of fun, but they're lost in a sea of gaffes that True Believers are likely to revile.
  7. A handful of fresh ideas is drowned out by dull level design and omnipresent stereotype. Smooth moves, destructible environments, plenty of combos... but tedious quests, shortage of other superheroes (and supervillains). Wasted potential indeed. [Issue#173]
  8. Despite the weird controls, console nature and repetitive play, WOS almost becomes fun (in a kind of ridiculous way) once you get into the groove. Possibly better when drunk. [January 2009, p.60]
  9. The saddest part about Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is that the only people willing to endure such a sloppy port are hard-core Spider-Man fans--the same group to whom the plot will make the least sense. [Jan 2009, p.59]
  10. Dull, repetitive missions and a whiny hero. Super this ain't. [Jan 2009, p.89]
  11. Web of Shadows aims for a sandbox GTA-style open environment, but has neither the verve, nor the technical ability to pull it off. [Jan 2009, p.101]
