  • Summary: Forged in the fires of advanced biotechnology, a new race has emerged from the shadows to threaten the SotS universe. Born of blood, driven by hunger and launched on a relentless search for the Gods that made them, these brutal warriors will stop at nothing to find "The Great Masters." As they tear the galaxy apart, a dark new chapter in the annals of interstellar conquest will begin. Bringing with it new strategies, new weapons, and a new view of "resources." They call themselves The Zuul. And they have uses for you. [GamersGate] Expand

  1. This might be due to a simple lack of competition for the moment, but Sword of the Stars just plains ‘works’ and is one of the best epic space strategy games you can buy.
  2. Combine new weapons, ship types, the wonderfully realized debut of the Zuul race, deeper gameplay, more scenarios and new ways to play, and you've got a solid, if unforgiving, title for hardcore turn-based fans to set their sights on. Kerberos definitely put enough into this to make it more than just a mission pack but not quite a full sequel.
  3. Brighter than ever. [Sept 2007, p.78]
  4. Born of the Blood does exactly what an expansion should do in making an original game bigger and better. The problem is that the balance is way off, leaving it ridiculously challenging to anybody but the most hardened of veterans, and anyone tempted by any original game plus expansion offers in the shops is on a hiding to nothing.

SOTS 1 is my favorite game. This expansion added the Zuul race which is great fun, they are the embodiment of evil, ship designs very evil-looking, they even have boarding chains :-)

However, you should just get the complete collection which includes the base game and all expansions, you can get it for $20 or less.

Great additions to gameplay, interface, and content from the original game. Worth trying for all space 4x and RTS fans.

I am a big fan of space 4x, and lately I've been waiting for a good game to replace Master of Orion 2... I've been playing MOO2 for too long, it needs to rest. I tried Galactic Civilization, and I liked it for a little while. But not long. As for MOO3, don't get me started. SOTS is a refreshing new title that brings a lot of option and tons of fun features that will keep me playing this game for years to come. A big must for fans of space 4x games. Expand
