  • Summary: In the third Tales of Monkey Island chapter, Guybrush gets in deep (literally!) as his quest for the voodoo exfoliating La Esponja Grande takes a scenic twist -- through the guts of a giant manatee! Trapped in the belly of the beast, our hero encounters a surprising band of castaways, including the long-lost (and obsessive-compulsive) explorer Coronado De Cava. Can the Mighty Pirate win the suspicious De Cava's trust? Will sexy pirate hunter Morgan LeFlay prove to be a ruthless enemy, or an unlikely ally? Will the group find La Esponja Grande in time to save Elaine from the rampant Pox of LeChuck? And will the world be crushed by the gnashing teeth of a certain demonic skull? Tales of Monkey Island's moist and absorbing third episode, Lair of the Leviathan, will answer some of these urgent questions -- and raise still more -- as the five month adventure builds to its epic climax. "Lair of the Leviathan" is the best chapter yet, and it thrills me for the future of the series. Halfway through, Telltale has proven that they know what they're doing. Bring on the next!
  2. It's a step in the right direction for the series and the point-and-click adventure, and a method of development that I'd like to see Telltale continue with the two remaining episodes. Best episode yet? I'm not too sure about that, but there's no doubt that each new story is more polished than the last, something that will hopefully continue throughout the year.
  3. Lazy find-three-item quests are nowhere to be seen in this episode, instead there's a wealth of context-based conundrums and mini-games that showcase LucasArts-style adventure design at its best. [Dec 2009, p.128]

If you have been following the Tales of Monkey Island saga up to this point, Lair of the Leviathan offers a few more hours of swashbuckling adventure and knee-slapping comedy that is sure to tickle your fancy.
  5. The best episode of Tales of Monkey Island up until this point. The puzzlers are a lot of fun to solve and the characters as original as we're used to from this series. Let's hope Telltale keeps gaining momentum.

The jokes are funny, the puzzles are challenging and both arise out of the overall story, which is genuinely interesting.
  7. Lair of the Leviathan is extremely short and not quite up to par in terms of difficulty, but its a generally solid continuation to the episodic series.

I started off sceptical about the setting of this chapter, it lacked the feel of the classic Monkey Island games more so than previous Tales chapters and felt like filler to the story rather than progression. But the introduction of some great characters - and particularly the return of a certain old one - helped make this the most enjoyable instalment so far. The chapter ends well and left me in great anticipation for Chapter 4, there's still potential for this series to be commended alongside the original games, lets see where Telltale go with it next! The Foundation was already set up for a deep and 'gut-wrenching' epic in the previous episode as we saw our beloved hero get eaten by a giant manatee...this one doesn't disappoints. Expand

Not as good as chapters 1 and 2. The dialogue in the middle really made me go crazy as I was thinking about how lame it was! Still worth playing. I hope next chapter the story gets better. Expand
