  • Summary: In the third Tales of Monkey Island chapter, Guybrush gets in deep (literally!) as his quest for the voodoo exfoliating La Esponja Grande takes a scenic twist -- through the guts of a giant manatee! Trapped in the belly of the beast, our hero encounters a surprising band of castaways, including the long-lost (and obsessive-compulsive) explorer Coronado De Cava. Can the Mighty Pirate win the suspicious De Cava's trust? Will sexy pirate hunter Morgan LeFlay prove to be a ruthless enemy, or an unlikely ally? Will the group find La Esponja Grande in time to save Elaine from the rampant Pox of LeChuck? And will the world be crushed by the gnashing teeth of a certain demonic skull? Tales of Monkey Island's moist and absorbing third episode, Lair of the Leviathan, will answer some of these urgent questions -- and raise still more -- as the five month adventure builds to its epic climax. "Lair of the Leviathan" is the best chapter yet, and it thrills me for the future of the series. Halfway through, Telltale has proven that they know what they're doing. Bring on the next!
  2. This latest chapter is a good follow-up to an otherwise disappointing second chapter. The back-to-basics dialogue choices, Insult Sword Fighting style of puzzles, as well as the confined interactions, make for a much more pleasant experience.
  3. Those who have been trying to decide whether or not to get into this game can know it feels like a Monkey Island title and if you've played the previous ones before these new chapters, you'll be able to capture that same feeling again.
  4. As a continuation of the story, however, the episode works well. [Dec 2009, p.91]

The Foundation was already set up for a deep and 'gut-wrenching' epic in the previous episode as we saw our beloved hero get eaten by a giant manatee...this one doesn't disappoints. Expand

I started off sceptical about the setting of this chapter, it lacked the feel of the classic Monkey Island games more so than previous Tales chapters and felt like filler to the story rather than progression. But the introduction of some great characters - and particularly the return of a certain old one - helped make this the most enjoyable instalment so far. The chapter ends well and left me in great anticipation for Chapter 4, there's still potential for this series to be commended alongside the original games, lets see where Telltale go with it next! Not as good as chapters 1 and 2. The dialogue in the middle really made me go crazy as I was thinking about how lame it was! Still worth playing. I hope next chapter the story gets better. Expand
