  1. A triumph...An expansive environment, expensive cars and plenty of company to race against make for an intoxicating Hawaiian cocktail. [Mar 2007, p.62]
  2. Test Drive Unlimited is just like Grand Theft Auto, except without the sex, violence, swearing... well, ok, it's only kind of like GTA, but it is still the most fun you can have in a virtual Ferrari without risking getting a dose of a virtual social disease.
  3. TDU's MMO elements are slight compared to quest-and-kill fare, but it's still the greatest advancement of the driving-a-pretend-car concept in years... A car fancier's wish-dream. [Feb 2007, p.74]
  4. Despite its high technical requirements and some weird choices made by the developers when implementing the control system, TDU is a nice experience for both single and multiplayer.
  5. In the end, Test Drive Unlimited is about having the ability to race amazing fantasy vehicles around an amazing fantasy island - and that core element works extremely well.
  6. It's a breath of fresh air to the racing genre and features some of the best online integration to date.

From the fact that the entire game world is essentially a lobby for multiplayer gaming to real-world open ended racing, Test Drive Unlimited gives you the option to let your imagination set the course. The game successfully brings the feel of the MMO world to the racing genre making for a unique game.
  8. If you’ve never been to Hawaii, here’s a one-way ticket for $50.
  9. If you can maneuver around its speed bumps, Test Drive Unlimited delivers a satisfying and visually opulent ride. [July 2007, p.56]
  10. The array of cars and the wide open roadways are wonderful, but there aren't a great deal of things to do with either of them.
  11. 80
Rough in spots and a bit too casual for some, Test Drive Unlimited nevertheless delivers a truly innovative format and a gorgeous, massive world populated by real people. Now get in and drive!
  12. TDU still offers a massive, inviting, and involving world for racing fans to gather in and share their love of cars. All with a cocktail on the side, too. [Mar 2007, p.64]
  13. TDU is a good online racing title and fits the bill for any racing fanatic. But the lack of general player life and some graphical faults knocked the score a little bit.
  14. It's not quite as unlimited as its subtitle might suggest, and it's got a pervasively aimless feel, but Test Drive Unlimited still succeeds by creating a fun, leisurely world to drive in.
  15. One of the rather useless parts they have added to the game was the clothes, accessories and being able to change your character. I found this to be something that seemed like an addition thrown in to try and add value to the game, but who wants to spend time picking out a new outfit when you could be racing.
  16. If you're a car lover, then you're going to drool over the detail and specifications of the vehicles in TDU .
  17. 70
An ambitious game that hasn't (yet) fulfilled its potential. There's brilliance here, but it's currently being smothered by technical issues and an unfortunately wobbly multiplayer component.
  18. 70
TDU is all about driving fast in expensive cars through gorgeous locales and that's exactly what it delivers. It's not a sim, so don't expect GTR2-level realism.

It's such a great racing game, I totally love it, though it has many glitches. But I tried a few fixes and the game runs perfectly. The landscapes are great, the cars are various, all time favorites there, girls are sweet (although based on the same woman model!!!), could you ask for more?! I'm still playing it and it passed almost 1 year Full Review »

    So much better than TDU2!

Although the graphics look a bit dated, they still look better than TDU2- which quite frankly sucks!

    Theres no
stupid storyline, or championship mode. Just detailed cars racing round a well made island, that has clearly taken ages to develop.

8/10 from me, simply because of the graphics its not as immersive or accesiable
