  1. So go out and give The Chosen a try – if you can wipe the grime away, getting beyond the terrible voice acting and mediocre story, you'll find an extremely affordable, enjoyable, and worthy addition to the annals of action role play gaming.
  2. With brazenly low system requirements, The Chosen: Well of Souls will fit snugly into the palm of your hand at 600 MB, lend you a healthy allotment of diversionary hours at less than the cost for an expansion pack, and bequeath a straight-forward, no-nonsense roleplaying experience.
  3. The Chosen: Well of Souls has simply been done better many times before.
  4. There is plenty to criticize about The Chosen: Well of Souls, but I want to reinforce that it's important to look at it as a budget release. Taking that perspective as a basis for your assumptions will put you into the correct mindset - limited game, fun gameplay, nothing revolutionary.
  5. While The Chosen: Well of Souls had its good points, I still found my attention wavering. The controls are easy to pick up on, especially if you have played "Diablo II." The story is okay, but we’ve all seen this save the world or perish act before.
  6. Short and simple, without making you feel that you need to hurry to close the portal to hell.
  7. Unfortunately, this genre requires a lot more panache and even more addictive gameplay hooks, something The Chosen fails to accomplish in its quest to push you that much closer to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. At its best, this is a pretty game that seems to understand the target it was aiming for but fails entirely to hit the mark.

There are a ton of Diablo clones out there for you to sink your teeth into and many are far better than this one. My advice is visit a wishing well instead, drop in a coin and make a wish that games like this are never to darken our doorstep again.
  9. This is a weak game, and that’s all there is to it. Anyone looking to create their own Diablo-clone should take a peek just to see how to do things wrong, but most everyone else can safely pursue their hobby of being a gamer and still avoid this forgettable toy.
  10. The Chosen is single-player only, which is probably for the best--you'd be hard-pressed to find many other people playing it. [Mar 2008, p.74]

One generic game, and there are better ones with more personality that you can play online for free. Doesn't help that it likes to crash when you leave it sit for more than a couple minutes.
  12. The Chosen: Well of Souls doesn’t really have anything going for it.

Twice encountered an un-damageable monster in normal play - not a feature, but a bug. Not ready for prime time, needed more testing before release.

I loved Diablo, Space hack was a hoot, and this game is scratching that itch quite well for me!
