  2. Negative: 10 out of 18
  1. The difficulty level is such that you're sure to get caught out on at least one or two of the puzzles, but the pay-off when you solve them heals the pain. It's not a 'classic' but there's a lot to do and there's plenty of fascinating places to explore.
  2. Fans of the adventure genre will enjoy The Sacred Rings because the puzzles and challenges are just that good. Just be warned – if you enjoy a good story, character development, or choices about anything at all, you won't find them here.
  3. I can’t think of another game where the developers apparently tried so hard to make it no fun to play. As a result, The Sacred Rings is just a bad game. The puzzles are tedious, the locations are dark, and the premise is silly (you actually spend more time trying to reunite two dead lovers than you do dealing with the Sacred Rings).
  4. While The Sacred Rings has plenty of familiar gameplay to offer puzzle lovers, the absence of original ideas and creative spark means the game will have a limited appeal.

There was nothing fun, enjoyable, or remotely redeeming about this game at all. The experience was akin to having a root canal.
  6. Only fans of the classic genre will really find much to get excited over in The Sacred Rings. The story is forgettable, the characters are lame, but the puzzles are definitely challenging.
  7. Unbearably hard and quite frankly pointless puzzles and sub-par acting with sub-par characters leave this ring waiting to be destroyed in Mt. Doom.
  8. If you can't get enough of these types of adventure games, well, you're in luck. Sacred Rings delivers the age-old formula that began with Myst, once again. If you're looking for innovation in the world of action adventure games, you're out of luck with Sacred Rings.
  9. There's just not enough to attract a lot of people to this game. The story feels non-existent, the characters are dull, and the puzzles mind-numbing.
  10. Extremely difficult puzzles and a vague plot sink this ambitious Myst clone.
  11. There's clearly talent behind the game, producing quality visuals and a technically impressive and bug-free experience. The plot and characters are dull and lifeless however, and there's nothing here to draw you into the world and make you want to stay.
  12. Are you in need of a haircut? Pick up a copy of The Sacred Rings and a couple of hours later you’ll have pulled out so much of your hair you’ll be set. Too difficult, too derivative, too damned boring.

Only those gamers in it for the puzzles will get a kick out of this one--those who don’t get overwhelmed, that is.
  14. The limited gameplay with an atmosphere that is completely spoiled by some deviously frustrating design and lazy pathing leads to an experience that for most will be flat and lifeless.
  15. The real puzzle is why anyone would consider this entertainment. [June 2007, p.71]
  16. It's just a dull succession of (il)logic puzzles, stuck on an ugly, incomprehensible hub. [Dec 2007, p.80]
  17. I feel only sorrow and embarrassment from having spent a bank holiday Monday wrestling with such garbage. [Aug 2007, p.92]
  18. Aura 2 is terrible and I have no sympathy for it – Telltale Games have shown us with Sam & Max that you can still produce funny, clever, well designed and playable adventure games on a very low budget.
