  1. But the sad fact remains, the intense experience we craved is just...gone. [May 2006, p.54]
  2. It's managed to create a whole new genre: the untactical shooter. [Mar 2006, p.104]

Lockdown got rid of everything that made its predecessors stand out and kept the bad A.I. and even worse backstories. Even without the burden of living up to its predecessors, Lockdown is -- at best -- a generic shooter with pretensions at realism.
  4. It's another throwaway shooter with bad AI, forgettable single player levels, and glib unremarkable multiplayer options. Here lies Rainbow Six. Rest in peace, while we go reinstall "Raven Shield."

It's truly saddening to see the Rainbow Six series plummet to these depths. As it is, unless the next installment is a return to the series' glorious past, Lockdown will be the last Rainbow Six game I ever play.
  6. Basically, there are just enough tactical elements in Lockdown to ruin it as an action-oriented shooter, and just enough action elements to ruin it as a tactical shooter. [May 2006, p.50]
  7. Plays more like a lifeless copy of the thousand arcade shooters that came before it, rather than anything even remotely strategic.

I've been playing R6 since the original and Lockdown is an insult to the R6 name. Starting with the positive: it has good graphics, sound, and each gun feels/shoots different and is fun to use. Too bad they didnt program any AI because that is what totally ruined the game for me. Completely untactical, it feels more like Serious Sam arcade shooting range. Your teammates that are selected for you have less than 50% chance of killing an enemy when you send them in a room and usually run past the enemy (who had his back towards the door) and into some preset location in the corner of the room and getting shot. So you pretty much solo the whole game but its not hard since the enemies arent facing your direction when you enter or stare at you while you put bullets in their face. Every level is nothing but a long series of rooms or corridors and the 100+ enemies per level stand around waiting to get shot. Oh and the physics on the enemies are alot worse then Raven Shield. well there is nothing much to say about singleplayer.there are 16 missions and all of them is about shooting terrorists.there is nothing which involves teamwork but multiplayer was good enough to give this game a seven.if you are a fan of rainbow six series and looking for some traditional gameplay then you will be hugely dissapointed. 3. Absolutely terrible, I don't even know why they even made this crap. Yes, trust me, crap, don't know what it is. And AI is dumb as hell, they tried to flash the room but eventually flash themselves, and me. What the heck is that?? Don't bother this rubbish, please. Full Review »
