Miners burrowed deep beneath the dirt streets of Torchlight, discovering veins of the ore richer than any found in living memory- but they were not the first to covet these mines. The miners from Torchlight broke through into the buried past, a dangerous labyrinth of caverns and ruined civilizations, twisted creatures and the bones of those who came before. Evil bubbles up from the depths and threatens to overrun Torchlight as it has so many others. The heart of a villain has infused the Ember, and his darkness seeps through the veins. You may not have heard of it, but you owe it to yourself to play this game.
  2. Some gamers may be disappointed to hear that there's no multiplayer option in the game, but there's so much fun to be had in the dark reaches under Torchlight that you won't really mind.

In the broadest terms, there are two ways to make a great game: do something cool that hasn't been done before, or do a great job of improving on things that have been done before. Torchlight falls pretty firmly in the second category, but that doesn't make it any less great.
  4. Fast, intuitive, colourful fun! The best singleplayer Diablo clone in years!
  5. Even though there is nothing new or truly unique about Torchlight, nothing at all, that it so confidently and prettily takes the fight to Blizzard is an enormous compliment about how well put-together this is.
  6. All in all, if you ignore the obvious drawbacks – I feel compelled to repeat that Torchlight would have won a lot if it had any form of multiplayer in it – the title at hand managed to reproduce the Diablo recipe succesfully.
  7. Even with the pet and the infinite dungeon, Torchlight is very much the definition of a Diablo clone. If you liked Diablo and you want to play it again, saddle up because you are going to love Torchlight.

It is brilliant, very cute with outstanding gameplay. Good interfaces and easy to just pick up and play. There has been some criticism that the game does not feature co-op or multiplayer, however in this day and age where EVERYTHING has co-op and multiplayer I found it a refreshing change to have a game I can just sit and play all on my own in peace. The treasure hunting and fishing aspects of the game keep it fresh as do the maps that lead to hidden bonus dungeons. I am still hunting for some very specific items to get full sets of the epic type suits with awesome bonuses. All in all this game has mass appeal, yes it is not original but damn it is fun, very pretty to look at and superb to play. Highly recommended and I am looking forward to the forthcoming release of Torchlight 2. Expand

I love this game. Everything is so well done and so much fun. The only reason it's not getting a 10, is that it's all been done I love this game. Everything is so well done and so much fun. The only reason it's not getting a 10, is that it's all been done before. Who cares, you say? Kind of an abstract criticism, you say? Well, the problem is, as much fun as it feels now, I think the fun will gradually diminish ... the only reason you're playing is to get better weapons so you can go deeper into the dungeons and fight better enemies so you can get better weapons so you can go deeper into the dungeons and...well, kind of self-referential isn't it? Infinite looping is stereotypically bad for cliched computers but not something people are prone to unless they're dysfunctional in some way so after a while it naturally begins to pall... But it's a minor nitpick. As dungeon crawlers go, this is sheer fun, and the most fun I've had since fate 2. If you like that sort of thing, it's a must try. Expand

Take the basic functionallity, simplify the most complicated formulas (hit chance, for example) and put a great cartoon style and a great OST... Boom. Torchlight. Very addictive and simple... I think it's the key for ARPGs... and Runic Games gave it to me for 15 euros. Pros: Simple and fun, addictive. Support for modding. Con: No multiplayer, no great-plot. Expand

The game is not that much difficult, and their is no end game (as in diablo).

In sale, if you liked Diablo, it's a good bargain ... else it's up to you.

You get aThis game is Diablo 2 stripped of the community, saddled with a pointlessly obtuse stat system, with the most dull characters ever. You get a melee warrior, a ranged archer, and a wizard. Yes, the most cliched, generic classes you could imagine. They even kept the same composer as Diablo 2 so the music will sound nostalgiac, but the mediocre art design (note that I am not criticizing the game for being cartoony, just for being ugly) will ruin that immediately. Furthermore, the lack of multiplayer means that gear doesn't matter. The game is poorly balanced for enemy levels. If you just go down the main dungeon, the game should mostly be fine but you will outlevel the enemies by the 10th or so floor. If, however, you complete some of the optional side dungeons that open up, you will overlevel the content and the game will largely consist of you mindlessly clicking on, and one shotting every single enemy without even the slightest fear of death. It becomes unbearably dull. So what we are left with is a few generic classes, stuck in a pointless Diablo 2 clone with no multiplayer, grinding for loot that never matters using a leveling system that rarely awards with the player with new abilities and always forces you to mindlessly dump stat points that are never really choices at all.

This is the worst Diablo 2 clone of all time. Avoid. At any cost. Even free. Do not waste your time.
