  1. Transformers doesn't make any radical changes to the classic action game genre, but it does have likeable characters and top-notch production values, coupled with enjoyable gameplay.
  2. While the gameplay is somewhat shallow, and the racing elements sometimes frustrating, there is plenty to say about getting a Transformers game with high production value and an all-star voice team. Activision and Traveller's Tales have brought the new movie to life with a decent beat-em-up title that doesn't succumb to the movie tie-in curse.
  3. I just hope in the next game they amp up the free roam capabilities and truly allow us to dive into the world of the robots from Cybertron.
  4. No difficulty settings, or multiplayer make completing this game a done deal. I cannot see that this title would have any replayability once you have completed the game after playing both sides.
  5. Unfortunately, the control system ruins much of the game experience, and even though a patch could probably fix this major issue, the producers have yet to release one.
  6. It's about on par with all other movie licensed games: relatively short, decent graphics, decent gameplay, and not much value to it.
  7. Not that much more than meets the eye. [Oct 2007, p.78]
  8. Just another mediocre conversion of a summer Hollywood blockbuster.
  9. Sane people. however--folks who don't take their new Leader Class Optimus Prime to bed with them--should probably play something else. [Oct 2007, p.72]
  10. There was limitless potential here, but it's wasted. Transformers: The Game should be a sleek, cutting-edge sports car; instead, it's an old beater whose driver's seat has a spring sticking out in exactly the wrong place.
  11. A textbook - not to mention chastening - exercise in making something inherently fun no fun whatsoever. [Sept 2007, p.60]
  12. Promising ideas completely wasted. [Oct 2007, p.78]
  13. As far as summer movie licensed video games go, Transformers is sadly one of the worst we've seen this year. While the movie stands, the video game most definitely falls.

  1. "Transformers: The Game" is not THAT bad. It has gleaming graphics with good lighting textures. It's only the repetitive campaign, uninspired story, and a lack of multiplayer that pulls this game out of the "good game" lane. Full Review »
  2. While the combat is enjoyable, the game overall is bland and rushed. The controls are almost non-responsive, and if you climb on a building and look at say, a park, you'll find that the park is an almost Minecraft-ish block of land with no curves at all. I could have done that on Paint, and they have it in a high production game. Pah. Full Review »
  3. Designed to look good in screenshots, actually so terrible Its indescribable. Avoid at all costs. The pedestrians are particle effects, the combat is boring, the enemies are idiotic, the cutscenes forget to play most of the time, and its just plain terrible. Full Review »
