This is one of my favorite games. I was lucky to have a new computer when it came out so I didn't encounter performance issues as other users stated. The physics were by far the best at that time and no other game had similar physics for the next 5-7 years, maybe Carmageddon had some nice physics back then. The terrain was vast and you could explore much more than the other games of its kind except "Delta Force". The sound engine had the best volumetric and positioning audio I have heard in a game, I could hear the dinosaurs breath and know at what angle and distance it was. The character control was very difficult at the beginning but after I've mastered it the game became more personal. Finally there was always a nice present waiting when looking down :)
Everyone had seen Jurassic Park, but not everyone knew about Trespasser. Probably because PC gaming wasn't too popular in 1998, which is very unfortunate for this product. The game takes you through an interactive version of Jurassic Park situated on Site B(the island where the dinosaurs were raised.) It's a long journey, full of atmosphere, as there are weathered buildings, half completed or just in disrepair, and broken machines along the way. The game even has its own voice over for the character of John Hammond, whom paints the player a picture of what the island was like when it was operational, since it's now abandoned.
I first played it when it was eight I think, but I only figured out how to play it properly when I tried it again at age 20. It is old, but it has decent physics, is moderately challenging, and is a beautifully crafted world, with amazing animal AI for the time, and to top it off the voice work of Richard Attenborough. You start off stranded and unarmed, shooting your way from one end of the island to the other. There's so much to take in along the way, that before you know you're playing a game and not experiencing a work of art, it's already over. I was entertained all the way though, and never played it for the sake of just trying to complete it. Not only is it brilliant, it's the definition of a "hidden gem." I'm glad I was one of the seemingly few that got to play it.
A legendary game, truly ahead of its time, technologically advanced and amazing. A legendary game, truly ahead of its time, technologically advanced and amazing.
I remember buying this for christmas in 1998. It was no disappointment. It was hardware hungry and I had to play in software mode because my gpu back than couln't keep up. But it was a great idea, way in front of other games. There was a physics engine. Okay, there was no friction on surfaces, so boxes would slip from each other. But it had great potential. It was released at least a year to early, okay.
As a game I had fun with it. I chose to play as a survivor, not as a game critic. I never noticed how harmless T rexes are since I avoided approaching them. I also didn't realised at the time ther were way to many raptors for such a small island. But most of the known JP-dinosaurs were there. It was a fun ride, from my perspective. And I had a lot fun modding it later, with new maps and dinosaurs.
Game was weird to me back to then and also hard ? I have 14 when I first play this game - never finished it.
But even so, was buggy and run slow as sh...
A technological disaster and thoroughly broken game. It did have some good story moments voiced by Richard Attenborough but the game itself is otherwise one of the worst games ever released.
