  1. Despite a slightly flawed interface and presentation, provides an enjoyable and deep strategy experience.
  2. A nice little sim, with only a few flaws keeping it from reaching that higher echelon of sim titles.
  3. In the end, the word of the day is "detail." Restaurant Empire has it to spare, incorporating design, bean-counting, empire-building, and plenty of customization into its gameplay. And yet, it's not that tricky to learn.
  4. Those that like management sims, dealing with the minutia of number crunching and furniture placement, and still enjoy The Sims will have a good time with it.
  5. The combination of statistical depth and the persistence of the player’s accomplishments is not to be ignored. Unfortunately, it does not quite reach the level of crossover appeal that it seems to desire.
  6. If you're new to immensely detailed simulation games, Restaurant Empire might be frustrating, but it's very accessible, since you can lower the difficulty until you get the hang of it. [July 2003, p.80]
  7. Despite its minor flaws, RE successfully combines the excitement of the restaurant biz with the deep number-crunching of a dedicated business sim. [July 2003, p.81]
  8. 78
It offers a fresh approach to the economic simulation market. It's not stretching things too far to think of Restaurant Empire as the long-awaited but still unannounced workplace expansion for "The Sims."
  9. I got the distinct impression that I was jumping through hoops for the sake of the hoop, not the game. [July 2003, p.120]
  10. 60
All the ingredients were in place, and the resulting concoction isn't totally worthless, it's just that between the freaky game design decisions and poorly thought out content, this is a meal some gamers may not have the stomach for.
  11. Despite its delectable appearance, Restaurant Empire is not a game for the feeble-minded or faint-hearted. You have to have the stomach to do what it takes to keep your restaurant profitable.
  12. Once things are set in motion, there's not much to do aside from the occasional tweak. [June 2003, p.85]
