  • Summary: Players assume the role of former gang member turned cop Marcus Reed as they fight crime on the GPS-accurate streets of Manhattan, complete with subways, hundreds of interiors, internationally recognized landmarks and real neighborhoods from Harlem to Chinatown to Times Square. Players navigate the city the way New Yorkers do, by taking cabs, riding subways, walking and driving cars and motorcycles. Gamers experience all the sights and sounds of New York, complete with the energy and architecture authentic to the city’s diverse neighborhoods, the voices and likenesses of real New Yorkers, and the cacophony of ambient traffic and bustling noises unique to the city. The game also includes character concentrations specific to each neighborhood. For example, the player will find a plethora of tourists amidst the lights and large buildings of Times Square, but predominantly locals near the brownstones of Harlem. [Activision] Expand

  1. If you’re a fan of the Sim City series, then give this a look. It’s a nice diversion for a few hours, but I really can’t advise spending a lot of money to buy it. You’ll be more than happy if you play for a week, so try renting it.
  2. True Crime is a trashy, lazily converted, shamelessly derivative and occasionally buggy game where you get to crash cars and hit people a lot. On those terms, I rather enjoyed it. [Sept 2006, p.94]

The PC port feels very sloppy overall, almost as if Aspyr simply got it working and then left it at that. If you're interested in this game, check out either of the console versions.
  4. The controls need work, the engine needs work, the collision detection needs work, the AI needs serious work, all in all I wouldn't be surprised if you told me this was a beta.
  5. Even if you forgive the flimsy story, cliché characters, and derivative gameplay, it's impossible to look past the myriad frustrating technical problems that plague this game.
  6. Overall, it offers absolutely nothing new compared to the console version (save for a few extra issues making it slightly inferior), and it is highly unlikely it could serve as means to garner any new fans.
  7. If you absolutely must play this game, and the wretched commercial system that chugged out this idiot child hasn't put you off the whole sorry shebang, then get a console version. Please don't buy this. [Oct 2006, p.74]

It was nice being a cop for once , having ppl giving away their car... freewilled. using violence and no cops bugging you cause you wear a badge. the capabilities were high too , you could ask bribe money , go to a gym. It was nice. Expand

Buscaba un juego al mejor estilo GTA, pero en el que encarnes un policía y lo encontré. Ambientado en Nueva York, el juego es muy entretenido, con unos gráficos interesantes y una historia de las buenas. Expand

Very average, but possessed a HUGE potential to outrank even the GTA series. Problems: the graphics look crap, environments are sparse (for NYC! there's no peak-hour traffic or gridlock), some clipping issues, the swearing is beyond excessive, but the biggest kill-joy is the controls. The controls are dreadful... which makes hand-to-hand combat especially frustrating. But eventually u learn to work around them. The auto-aim makes this seem like a console-port. BUT... with all the negatives out of the way, it is fun driving around NYC busting the balls of street gangsta's. The good cop/bad cop feature is especilly amusing. But the best feature is Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson from Law & Order SVU) and Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus) do major voices roles.... so you really can feel like a Cop cleaning up the streets. :D Fun, but dont expect a GTA-killer title. Terrible! Don't buy it...don't even download it. Waste of time and money. Laggy even if your computer is is fast. It's completely bugged. Controls suck so bad. Sensitivity sucks even at max. Avoid. If you really want to play it get the console ones. Controls are much better with them. Expand
