Players take on the role of Joseph Turok, a former black ops commando, now part of an elite special forces squad, known as Whiskey Company, which is on a mission to take down a war criminal – Turok’s former mentor, Roland Kane. 1. A good start that quickly falls off into a discombobulated mess of the story’s true purpose but is successful in constantly delivering hordes of baddies to tear apart.
  2. Ultimately, Turok is the kind of game which you either like very much, or you hate and uninstall it after the first 10 minutes.
  3. The human A.I. aren't all that intelligent, but what they lack in brains they make up for in resilience.

Turok is a decent game with obvious flaws. Its first steps as a reborn franchise are decent ones, though it's difficult to recommend over so many other titles on the PC market.

It's terribly inconsistent and feels like a shooter from the last century. [Aug 2008, p.74]
  6. Years ago Turok was an instant hit on game consoles. But today on PC things are different. The controls are probably the worst of all console-to-PC conversions and not editable. It's not possible to save the game freely and save points are so rare, it almost feels like the developers want you to give up. Turok fails in level design and game controls, but we've played it until the end because it tells an interesting story.

Mediocre and dismally uninspired. [July 2008, p.88]

The 'characters' are entirely forgettable, the 'story' is a boring rip-off, the graphics are unimpressive, and the gameplay is unimpressive. I did like that there was a decent diversity of weapons, many with alternate fire modes, but that's hardly sufficient to carry a game. It is fun to fight dinosaurs--especially when it comes to stabbing raptors in the face or slitting the throats of compys--but unfortunately you spend all too much time listening to boring 'characters' talk and fighting human mercenaries with bad AI. Definitely worth a play-through, so long as you're not a wanker that doesn't like dinosaurs, but be prepared for some frustration along the way. Expand

Too bad that the story is almost non-existant, and the fixed checkpoint system is true hell, since you can go on with almost 10minutes and dozens of enemy killed before reaching one (with means doing again and again AND AGAIN the same sequence only for some moments of bad luck). Graphic is ok, sound is ok, gameplay is "ok".... i give it a value of 10bucks, not a dollar/euro more. Expand

I find the knifekill/scenematics good at first, but lame after a while. The stealth system is lame too, you can sneak around and make silent kill's.... In the beginning, then the AI notice you no matter what you do.
If a new Turok game were to be released, I would say more dinosaurs, knife and bow, and less soldiers that you can fight in any other game.

I can see many people smashing their mouses, keyboards, monitors and stuff who have anger issues in irritating games. Its really that horrible of a boss fight.

A simple thing as a sprint function would've helped the game big time since the dino enemies are moving very fast while youre literally crawling at granny speed without being able to run. And dont even try to defend it by saying thats how old shcool FPS works, ITS CLEARLY IS AND FEELS LIKE A PS3, X360 ERA CONSOLE FPS, just with a stupid developer not being able to implement a sprinting fuction. Enemy AI is also horribly balanced which have pin point accuracy no matter the situation. Lots and lots of cheap deaths also happen. Check point system is horrible. Big reliance on stupid QTEs and key mashing segments. Everything is overly scripted and game feels way too linear without giving player much freedom. One maybe good thing i can say that they got the dinos right, theyre animated really well and sound convincing aswell, their modeling is also very well done.

Story and characters could be aswell non existant since story is plain simply awful filled with every possible cliche and characters are so boring and uninpsired that it hurts, except Turok himself, he's kinda cool and feels like a proper bad ass. Also the environments and level design are dull and uninspired.

Horrible use of Turok IP and terribly wasted potential on cool premise that this game at first sem't to be.

Oh and yes PC port has issues aswell with textures on modeling turning pitch black and stuttering here and there, but atleast its 60 fps almost all the way through.

Here's hoping someone in future will do Turok game right.
