  1. Even more than Anna Kournikova, US Open 2002 makes me more interested in tennis. [Nov 2002, p.130]
  2. Tennis nuts will like it, but I'm still pining for a control-perfect "Virtua Tennis" port. [Nov 2002, p.132]
  3. Arguably the finest PC-based tennis simulation to date. It is strategic, positional, somewhat realistic, and at times extremely challenging.
  4. There are plenty of modes, surfaces, and players, combined with some sharp visuals, but unfortunately, the slow gameplay and weak intelligence of opponents dampened the overall experience for me.

Where "Virtua Tennis" was tight, precise, responsive, polished, and complete, US Open 2002 is clumsy, awkward, and very straightforward.
  6. Computer opponents are simply too good, too tireless. Points constantly drag on, as your foe can get to almost every ball that you hit.
  7. 30
From the shoddy AI, to the animation and controls that make it seem like you're always playing on mud, U.S. Open fails on an amazing number of levels.
