In the end, I came out a fairly happy camper. Just like any other game, War of the Immortals has its ups and downs. However, unlike any other game War of the Immortals is going to provide you a unique experience that you really will only be able to understand once you check the game out for yourself. If you're looking for a new MMORPG or are in the market to try out something you may have not played before, it is definitely worth giving this game a shot, because you may come out more satisfied than you came in.
Free to play? Yes. Is it fun? Yes. Is it easy to play with another person sitting in the room? Perhaps, if you are both higher levels. Is it the best Free MMORPG that I've played? Not really. But... What I noticed first about this game was it's scenery. I absolutely love the artistic work that went into the backgrounds, especially in the menu. Next, leveling up is a breeze for the first 70 levels, so that's a plus. The gameplay can be customized to be very casual or involved, depending on your style. It auto-routes everything, so you don't have to get lost while traveling across this massive world. It also allows you to auto-potion, which pretty much ensures that you won't die unless you take on an opponent beyond your skills (which I have done, lol). There's also an auto-combat feature that allows you to focus more on the task at hand than fighting annoying creatures that stand in your way. It also helps you gain a lot of exp. One final thing: you DON'T HAVE TO BUY stuff to enjoy this game!!! It is truly a Free To Play! I'm currently level 58 (which is still actually pretty low) and I had no struggle getting there, and no pressure or grief from other players who chose to buy the starter pack or add-ons. MY main complaint is that it only allows a fixed overview that cannot be expanded. I'm used to City of Heroes, which allowed a third person view of the character. In WoTI, you can't always see enough of the environment, which is really a shame because it is so 'pretty.' Overall, any mmorpg fan should try this out. It's free on Steam and worth a few hours to get to level 50. There's more than enough to keep even advanced players busy for a long time!
Summary of this Free-to-Play game: it is not Pay-to-Win, it is actually Hack-to-Win.
The good points: lots of things to do that will keep you occupied the whole day. If it isn't questing or doing daily instances, you can hunt world bosses, raise your pet, create an orb for your pet, farm, craft, etc. Very comprehensive systems to learn.
The bad points: huge grind at the endgame, it can take you 2 weeks to advance one level. There are also in-built mechanisms where you can fail to increase your gear's strength and have it reset to 0.
The really ugly points: hackers and cheaters are not dealt with. There are no GMs on hand. If an exploit occurs, it is imperative that you take advantage of it. Otherwise you will feel like a loser while everyone else benefits. Nobody gets punished more than a slap on the wrist (i.e. a temporary ban) and you can easily get away with illegally acquired goods.
If you pay anything to Perfect World Entertainment, you are the real loser.
I was expecting this to be awful going in and even then i was amazed at how bad it was. Running on a modified RTS engine, using stolen Torchlight & Titan Quest sound effects (and probably other assets but I'm not playing this longer), defaulting to a 1028x720 windowed mode, and a locked camera (zoom but no pitch) make this a serious contender for the worst F2P game on Steam. Don't bother playing this or any other PWI games.
