If you buy this, you've been duped. This game is a quick cash-in and isn't even worth a rental. Save the receipt and return it for "Karaoke Revolution."
  2. If you want a good rhythm game, look elsewhere. And if you want American Idol, just go watch the show.
  3. Nothing more than an unpolished, but promising, rhythm title. [Feb 2004, p.103]
  4. Cheat Code Central
A cash grab...a shallow game. It's a novelty that will disappoint many in the long run.
  5. A couple of years ago this title might have flown but there are just too many music games currently available for the PS2, and American Idol just seems like a quick and dirty knockoff to cash in on the fever of the show.
  6. 20
Strictly for Barbie collectors or fans of the show who have no understanding of what makes a good videogame, American Idol is a cheap rip-off of other, much better games, and an overall unimpressive attempt to cash in on a popular TV phenomenon.
  7. The only button you really need to know about is on the back of your console and it's pretty much impossible to press it too soon. [Feb 2004, p.114]
  8. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
There's something fundamentally wrong about the fact that you can beat American Idol - and not miss a single note - with the sound off. [Feb 2004, p.101]
  9. It’s a very simple concept, if you’re a Pop Idol fan then you’ve probably already put in your pre-order for this game, if you’re not then it’s better left staying away from this game it’s simply too shallow and doesn’t last long enough to warrant more then a rent.
  10. Is it the next "DDR?" No. Will a 13 year old girl love this game? Yeah, I think so.
  11. There's a decent selection of songs, but the frequent loading, limited game play and repetitive nature of the title just make it too boring for most to handle after a handful of sessions with the game.
  12. The recipient of the "Coaster of the Year" award. Beer steins everywhere are smiling.
  13. Overall it seems like the production attitude was, to quote the Simon Cowell-managed Westlife, "Hey, whatever." A very poor cash-in, and one to avoid.
  14. One of those rare games that make you wonder how it is even authorized to be sold for a profit.

Well, much like the show itself. Repetitive, boring, and not worth the time spent on it.
