We wish the AI were a little more fair in a couple ways, but the races stay close and exciting until the end, so we can't complain too much. In short, if you're into arcadey racers, give this one a shot - you won't be sorry.
  2. The ATV Offroad Fury series has long been known for fast, dirty thrills, and ATV4 is the best so far.
  3. It’s exciting, has a wonderful trick system, excellent courses, and all the addictive content the series is known for. It’s more of the same, and for the third time running. But unlike other series that just love to repeat themselves, this one is still really good.
  4. This is definitely the best playing and best looking of the ATV Offroad series. While the gameplay isn’t exactly new it’s refined and diverse. It’s quality and quantity at the same time. This is an absolute must for racing fans.
  5. Offroad Fury 4 gives a wider selection of rides than just an ATV. However, this title misses Rainbow’s attention to detail.
  6. 80
For fans of the series, ATV Offroad Fury 4 is just about everything they could ask for in an ATV game. There are extras on top of extras, rounding out what is already a great arcade racing experience.
  7. A commendable example of a last-gen game that's still willing to evolve and offer more for your money.
  8. 60
This game probably won't appeal to new fans but it has more than enough to keep die-hard mud flingers satisffied. [Dec. 2006, p.119]
  9. Fans of realism in the sport may enjoy it, but even for them, it's basically a retread.
  10. Vehicle handling is very responsive, and never manages to feel off. You’ll easily be able to tell the difference between most vehicle types, more so when it comes to different classes.
  11. Despite some minor annoyances, this game is big fun. Something you can drop in for a few minutes for a quick race, or spend hours upgrading your vehicles.
  12. 69
This isn't to say that ATV Offroad Fury 4 is bad, it's just that its handheld sibling is a little more imaginative.
  13. Despite strong competition this still has enough under the bonnet to warrant playing it. [Apr 2008, p.65]
  14. The only question that remains is, with four games in this series and countless other similar titles, how much longer can this engine be revved? Still, by offering up plenty of vehicles, racing styles and gameplay modes, ATV Offroad Fury 4 is a solid racing experience.
  15. It's ugly, shallow, stupid fun.
  16. Both the ATV's and Bikes feature the best current-gen behind the bars camera to date, providing the closest thing to real racing on the PS2. [Dec. 2006, p.70]
  17. Immense racing. You get 4 different vehicle types, over 70 tracks plus a track editor, robust online modes and even a story mode for those that want it. All of this is wrapped up in an attractive package that runs well, controls very smoothly and plyas like it looks.
  18. ATV Offroad Fury 4 isn't such a bad game. But it's clear that the game hasn't brought anything new. The core of the game is solid, but graphic wise the game isn't able to cope with the latest generations. Although we have to keep in mind that this is still a Playstation 2 game. The Story Mode is great and enjoyable, but they could have left out the Freestyle Mode of the game.
  19. The addition of the extra vehicles and racing styles takes what was already a solid premise and brings it to the next level. It’s a definite must-play for racing fans who enjoy getting a little dirty.
  20. The one notable downer is that the AI can be unforgiving. [Nov 2007, p.107]
  21. Climax continues to refine its ATV racing franchise, adding more modes and much welcome PSP connectivity. Decent offering for what appears to be the last ATV on the PS2.
  22. 77
And as with previous Off Road Fury games, the handling is fun and accessible while the competitive AI supplies a surprisingly tough challenge right from the start.
  23. The game isn't a bad addition to the series, but it feels like an expansion at a sequel price. [Jan. 2007, p.86]
  24. It's too bad ATV Offroad Fury 4 has to come out in the shadow of "Motorstorm", but thanks to the "Motorstorm" delay, it might still be the Baja racing game of the year. [Jan. 2007, p.82]
  25. A definite upgrade, plain and simple. It may not be quite enough to summon new fans this late in the day, but that Story Mode and extra modes/content is always intriguing, regardless of whether or not you’re familiar with the franchise.
  26. Average at heart. [Apr 2008, p.82]
  27. Maybe it's just that, for as much as the series has done to reinvent itself as a pure racer rather than a technical "rhythm" racer, it's still a fairly predictable formula.
  28. The game includes a lot of new content since the addition of other vehicles really does a lot to increase the breadth of the game. The gameplay is as solid as it has ever been.
  29. 85
A perfect example of this fact, not only is it the best game so far in this underrated series it's also one of the most enjoyable racing games around at the moment for any console.
  30. It doesn't break the mold, but then again, no game in this genre really has to if it wants to be enjoyable.
  31. ATV Offroad Fury 4 is another great extension of the series that manages to keep things fresh with tight handling, improved physics, and an assortment of gameplay modes including tons of multiplayer options.
  32. A confident end to the PS2 ATV series. [Sept 2007, p.88]
  33. 79
Some of the vehicles feel incredibly loose, and that’s something that should be fixed in the first entry of a game, and shouldn’t even be a fleeting memory by the fourth.
  34. ATV Offroad Fury 4 is a good racing game, a valid option for those who appreciate the all-terrain and Freestyle variations.
  35. The good heavily outweighs the minute problems with the artificial intelligence and soundtrack. Despite these few complications, Fury 4 is still a very fun and enjoyable racer that is worth a spin.
