  1. For 2D fighting bliss, look no further than Capcom Fighting Evolution. [Dec 2004, p.64]
  2. This one's for the hardcore players, kiddies. It's a perfect multiplayer game (especially if you have a hardcore fighting stick or two), but the casual fighting game fan sure isn't going to be entertained for long.
  3. The game is clearly best suited for hardcore fans of Capcom's fighting games, who might enjoy exploring some of the nuances here, but probably won't find much reason to keep coming back.
  4. While there is nothing profoundly wrong with the game, it doesn’t put a unique twist on the game, it doesn’t have a large or comprehensive cast of characters, and it doesn’t look nearly as good as the competition.
  5. The menus are cheap looking, the tunes tinny and the endings don't reward you in the way they should, being short and small. The whole thing has the feel of a title scrambled together at the whim of a marketing director keen to make a fast buck on the back of a wave of retro popularity.
  6. Many of the characters that are included in this game are awkward to control or just plain boring. The gameplay itslef is fairly bare bones. [Holiday 2004, p.115]
  7. There is no reason to buy or play this game. It’s a thin, worthless piece of spam on a hook that will hopefully be gobbled up by the countless better games available this holiday season. Even if you get nothing for Christmas, be thankful you didn’t get this.

The quotes from Armchair Empire and Gamer Feed are spot on. If I weren't such a fan of the genre and company I would have rated it a 6.

Its a fun, if not mercilessly rehashed game with no real innovation, particularly in its graphics. There's only one new sprite in the Its a fun, if not mercilessly rehashed game with no real innovation, particularly in its graphics. There's only one new sprite in the whole game, and almost all the rest of the sprites are anywhere from 6 to 10 years old. That's unacceptable in a world where GGX is almost 4 years old, and SNK remains low-res but has for more detailed, well animated, and best of all, often new or modified sprites. Granted most people don't play these games for graphics, but geez, its seriously time for Capcom to evolve. Collapse
