Immensely playable...Easily the most enjoyable first-person shooter available for the PS2. [June 2005, p.74]
  2. The option to use realistic damage will reward all that time spent in the single-player game nailing head shots too. Those of you with a Multitap will have great fun here. [PSW]
  3. The unique features this game has, like the spectacular physics and item creation system, push it past the run-of-the-mill shooters into a category just under the truly elite.
  4. Sure, the story is hackneyed to the point of being a rip-off of just about every spy movie from the past ten years, but the script is great, the acting is better, and the gameplay just can’t be beat.
  5. Has the most impressive physics engine seen on consoles thus far, but the game does not take full advantage of it. The action is straight-forward, but engaging, and the whole game has a nice cinematic feel to it. One of the best shooters for PS2. [July. 05],
  6. While visually lacking, this shortcoming never manages to detract from the game's single or mutiplayer offerings. Cold Winter is an altogether solid package.

This unpretentious disc was cobbled together by a self-proclaimed "garage team" in the U.K., and is well worth your hard-earned quid.
  8. The fact is, Cold Winter repeatedly enables the player to do things you just wouldn't expect to be able to do. Big guns even break crates more easily than small guns; such is the developer's level of consideration.
  9. With the exception of a small item collection scheme which allows players to build their own grenades, Cold Winter offers nothing distinctly new to the FPS market. Instead, what it brings is excellent design, good storytelling, and eight to ten hours of entertaining violence to a console that's never had it so good.
  10. It's not "Halo," but PS2 owners finally have an exclusive FPS that is worth bragging about. [June 2005, p.129]
  11. Cold Winter is the type of game you would take home to meet your mother, not too flashy but nothing to be embarrassed about either...just a good time.
  12. By taking the most essential parts of any action game and combining them into one DVD, Cold Winter is a considerably engaging console shooter.
  13. Cold Winter ticks every box on the 'perfect FPS' checklist - except for the one marked 'lasting challenge'. Good, but it should have been so much better. [PSM2]
  14. No first person shooter on any future system should feel like a gun mounted on a camera ever again!
  15. Offers the best FPS experience on the PlayStation 2 with a fluid experience that immerses gamers into a world of conspiracy, intrigue and action.
  16. It may not be the prettiest or the most innovative FPS out there, but Cold Winter is worth a look.
  17. It all seems very familiar, but it's a good gaming experience that FPS fans will gobble up for a little while.
  18. 75
The unremarkable climax not withstanding, Cold Winter offers a consistently exiting Bond-ish shooting experience.
  19. Cold Winter isn't the best in its class, but it's definitely worth playing if you're looking for a solid single-player shooter with a decent online component to back it up.
  20. I really like the look of the game, with its rich color palette and vivid lighting, and the presentation is top-notch. [July 2005, p.79]

Cold Winter is a great FPS for the PS2, but unfortunately most people don't know about this title. I was thoroughly impressed with whatCold Winter is a great FPS for the PS2, but unfortunately most people don't know about this title. I was thoroughly impressed with what it delivered. A great storyline that keeps you wanting to know what's going to happen next, the ability to blow limbs off of an enemy, plenty of explosions and weapons to use, and you can interact with the environment. The game is intense and has some of the most impressive shootouts I've ever seen in a game. This game is very exciting and an absolute blast to play. The flaws? Graphics in real-time look ugly and sometimes there are hit detection problems. Full Review »
