Has just about everything you're looking for in an action/adventure game. [Oct 2002, p.84]
  2. The game radiates beauty and wonder from every corner, and the end result is something special.
  3. Technically, the framerate takes a hit here and there in some of the more ornate levels. It's noticeable, but it doesn't disrupt the flow of action.
  4. The game is also quite easy. Baku is able to practically heal on demand, so even boss fights basically go on until you win.

A quality, enjoyable action-RPG...On the strength of DH's story alone, you have an RPG worth not only playing but owning. [Oct 2002, p.179]
  6. It does have a fanciful quest, endearing characters, and solid Zelda-style gameplay, and this should more than satisfy true fans of the genre.
  7. It provides some engaging platform-style puzzle solving, in unique environments. Enough said.
  8. A diamond in the rough... The dreadful Saturn-caliber graphics and crappy sounds are tolerable once the fun of exploring other character’s dreams (ala the 3D free-roaming portions of “NiGHTS”) is experienced.

With more technical polish on the exterior, some better camera work, and a few more clever level designs, Dual would have been quite a thing...but even as it stands, you’ll still find plenty of gameplay value.
  10. 70
It's a fun action-RPG with some bright ideas and no small amount of personality.
  11. It had its share of problems (mainly technical), and the music left a lot to be desired, but the gameplay was very addictive.

An overwhelming likeability. [Nov 2002, p.52]
  13. Rather simplistic. I mean, there are a lot of things to do and multiple moves to learn and master, but I never felt in danger of losing the game.

    It's just plain wacky. [Oct 2002, p.146]

The buddy system is fully fleshed-out and the combat system is deep, but the game is marred by easy, repetitive puzzles and flawed jumping mechanics.
  16. Its varied attacks and dreamy underpinnings could prove as a bridge for the younger gamer looking to one day embroil himself in harder, more difficult quests.
  17. A nagging generic sameness that, despite a wonderful localization, robs the game of any joy in playing it.

A enjoyable game with great combat, challenging bosses, and perhaps the most likable duo of main video game characters. Shame this wasA enjoyable game with great combat, challenging bosses, and perhaps the most likable duo of main video game characters. Shame this was shrugged off by the Kingdom Hearts release, this really is a unique game that needs to be experienced. Full Review »
