  1. In spite of myself, I really liked this game. It's really reminiscent of "Track and Field" -- the old arcade game -- only more complete and much better looking.
  2. Despite the fact that the control interface will do a number on your fingers and forearms, this game gets a gold medal for capturing the Olympic action with its combination of frenetic gameplay and excellent graphics.
  3. It the best of the Olympic crop, but it still doesn't quite get even a bronze medal.
  4. It's got a marked cosmetic advantage over competition. When it comes to playability, though, this sucker doesn't even make the scoreboard.
  5. If you don't believe physical strain should be the end result of a video game session, then, as Bono might sing, walk on.
  6. Everything you've come to expect from a trrack and field game, just upped a notch graphically. Lots of button tapping, good-looking environments and the correct audio help round it out.

A perfect sitting around the living room, talking smack with your buddies, everyone's involved party game.
  8. A competent four-player track and field game. What more do you want? Great gameplay? Stunning originality? Customizable button setups? A PS2 with four default controller ports? You won't get those.
  9. That's not to say it's a terrible game, either, but it's a long way down the track from the instant rewards, utter playability, simplistic fun and almost child-like innocence of the PlayStation original.
  10. Despite a few rough edges, Konami has nailed it when it comes to gameplay and fun.
  11. All praise the lord of the church of the swollen-thumbed messiah--this game is a kick!...You pound endlessly on two buttons until either the event is over or you've lost feeling in your hand, but virtually every other aspect of the game has been improved.
  12. Like the Dreamcast version, the game seems to short, but that could be because it's so much fun to play, and you definitely extend the fun by competing against multiple human players (you can play up to four with a multitap).

As much as I love playing this game, and as positively as I can write this review, the overall game design of ESPN ITF isn't very gamer-friendly.
  14. I think that they have, and not only have they finally gotten a button mashing game on the right track, they found a way to present it in a fashion where the player can not only enjoy the game, but have you coming back for more in the long run.
  15. Although much better than the Dreamcast version and the visual/aural pinnacle for the series, ESPN International Track & Field still mostly parties like it's 1983 with its mix of ten old and new events.
  16. If you have enjoyed Track and Field games in the past, you will find everything that you have grown to love with better graphics and a few new extras.

Not so good on your own, but with a multi tap and some mates...
