90More realistic and a better atmosphere than ever – definitely the best FIFA-game up to date.
-
90A truly spectacular soccer title with exceptional player animations, ball handling and gameplay to boot. The AI will provide a significant challenge, but the implementation of one of the most advanced and complete online modes will mean that this game will truly last you a long time.

Typically polished and enjoyable, FIFA 09 on PS2 is aging gracefully. [Nov 2008, p.61]
-
83As it stands, the game is still a lot of fun but largely unchanged from last year's version. As such, it's only really commended if you skipped 08 or are a diehard soccer fan (and don't have access to current-generation platforms).

80There's no question that FIFA on PS2 is starting to show its age. It looks good for a PS2 game and the new animations are excellent, but the frame rate isn't as smooth as we'd like it to be. It's also a big disappointment that online play is nowhere to be seen in FIFA 09 on PS2.
-
80Fundamentally, FIFA on PS2 hit its peak somewhere around FIFA 06 or FIFA 07. With FIFA 09, there are a few new features designed for hardcore players, but hardly the many bells and whistles of years past.
-
75The focus on playability clashes with the visual limitations, but for those who didn't get the previous edition, this one comes out recommended.
-
63Not enough has changed for gamers to pick up the latest version of FIFA Soccer. It has regressed in the majority of the areas while the next-gen versions have catapulted ahead in quality. Avoid the PS2 version and move onto the 360 or PS3 version.
