While Streetwise's story progression is well thought out, the presentation and implementation of the game engine is sorely lacking.

The technical issues and unambitious design come with a chaser of charming silliness. [Apr 2006, p.97]

Unfortunately, the end result is a little more Rambo, a lot less Rocky. It's going to take a rethinking to pull the 3D brawler out of its "me too" phase, and Streetwise certainly isn't helping.

The only real downside is that the upgrade system is worthless. [Apr 2006, p.82]

Thinking-free fun, but just too shoddy to stab our hearts with the flickknife of love. [May 2006, p.55]
  6. This is one of those games you’ll look forward to, have a brief amount of fun with, and then wonder what went wrong.
  7. Everything Final Fight made great is conspicuously absent in Streetwise.
  8. You almost have to ask whether Capcom closed Studio 8 out of sheer embarrassment.
  9. Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK

Disposable urban nonsense. The barbaric combat may entertain for a while, but it's not long until tedium sets in. [May 2006, p.85]

The game's music is pretty good, and the combos are cool, having a neat little 'buying moves' mechanic from a gym. While the story is absurd, and there are some sound and cutscene glitches if you play this on a PS3 (Or 360, for that matter), this game is still a goofy, over-the-top experience worth a rent, but not worth a permanent place on your shelves. Final Fight Streetwise sticks true to the original arcade. If you're used to playing GTA, you'll have no problem with the camera. Final Fight Streetwise sticks true to the original arcade. If you're a fan of the original Final Fight, you'll slowly but surely see the resemblence, and will love it. Great game! :) Full Review »
