  1. Its camera system and length certainly hold it back from getting a better score, but the gameplay itself is a lot of fun.
  2. It's an inventive process, really taking steps where a game development hasn't before as you control a fish making his way through the Seven Waters.
  3. There’s a vibrancy that ensures progress is a pleasure and backtracking is seldom a chore – in fact, the game is often at its best when you’re free from the demands of unlocking the next section and simply revelling in your buoyant weightlessness. [Nov 2004, p.110]
  4. Finny's tone and relative simplicity make it clear that it was designed for the younger end of the lunchbox spectrum, but vague mission structure and some unusually punishing elements work against the rest of the design.

If a kid wants to play as a fish, then Finny is up their alley and hopefully they'll give up before the annoying gameplay gets to them.
  6. While its cuteness, simple goals, and short running time seem perfect for the little tykes, its complex controls, difficult jumping puzzles, and rough camera turned off our six-year old test subject after 20 minutes. [Apr 2005, p.78]
  7. Finny isn't my favorite title out there, but it is fresh. It's probably best a game for younger players. There's no real violence other than food chain stuff, and the story line is pretty gentle -- even when you're finding new ways to sleep with the fishes.
  8. If you've got a really, really, young tyke it might provide a few hours of fun but the novelty will be short lived for all involved.

I really like this game. It's very different, relaxing, challenging, but not too much so. The only thing that I ever find bothersome is I really like this game. It's very different, relaxing, challenging, but not too much so. The only thing that I ever find bothersome is the camera, but other than that I love it. And it's only short if you speed through the game without trying to collect scales/prey/lures and you know exactly where to go and what do to. Full Review »
