Surprisingly entertaining. It's comical, smart, and deeper than we imagined.
  2. The game does have its moments, but the racing simply isn't very exciting.
  3. Game Informer
The racing is slow as molasses, the weapon selection is pathetic, and it only supports two-player split-screen. [Aug 2003, p.91]
  4. Comparing it to other cart-racing games, it is definitely one of the most fun-filled experiences you can find in that particular genre. But basing it solely on it’s value in the game industry, renting it just makes more sense.
  5. Cheat Code Central
In the end it's the drab gameplay that ultimately hurts what could been a more innovative experience...I'd certainly recommend playing the game - just maybe in bite size chewable doses.
  6. While the concept is good and the presentation is at times outstanding, the core gameplay isn’t strong enough to separate it from the swarms of mediocre kart racers that have come before it.
  7. The replay value is solely in trying to beat the game with progressively more difficult characters, as the multiplayer component isn't going to keep anyone captivated for long.
  8. Play Magazine
Together with a narrator that truly enhances the experience (making this the polar opposite of 90 percent of games with narrators), Freaky Fliers is like a comedy album, cartoon and racing-shooter, all wrapped into one tasty toon tortilla. [Aug 2003, p.70]
  9. 50
Had Freaky Flyers been a bit more focused, it could have easily been a top tier game, but as-is, the game simply spreads itself too thin.
  10. It is fun, but certainly won't last for long and will soon crash and burn into the pile of games ready for trading in.
  11. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
These flyers aren't ready for prime time, but they can still thoroughly amust you for a few hours before you return them to Blockbuster. [Sept 2003, p.93]
  12. PSM Magazine
Compounding the problem is the game's low framerate. Freaky Flyers will often drop below 30 frames per second, resulting in a chop-tastic display. [Sept 2003, p.40]
  13. While vibrant with colors and sounds, at times plays out in a tired and repetitive fashion, often leaving you with the feeling that you are playing in slow motion.
  14. It's Midway's over-the-top-and-drop-dead-funny execution of the genre's conventions, however, that give the game a dose of personality that makes it stand out.
  15. GMR Magazine
A root canal, a disfiguring car accident, a "Suddenly Susan" marathon - these are things slightly less amusing than Freaky Flyers. [Oct 2003, p.72]
  16. Graphics are beautiful; however, playing a game solely for its graphics is unheard of in my book. The concept is original, but is really not that intriguing.
