The difficulty level may have been cranked up a little too high for the average gamer to enjoy the single-player experience, but the robust multiplayer component of the game helps to make up for it.
  2. While the tactical combat is still the best around, more casual gamers hoping for a military action fix may find it too frustrating, too inconsistent and too cold for their liking.
  3. 80
The multiple teams, added tanks, verticality, precision fire, the stepped-up AI, and the much-needed multiplayer modes are all smart, value-added features. The game doesn't, however, advance much once you get going.
  4. For the most part they offered multiple new ways to approach each situation, but I just felt that had the control scheme been adjusted to reflect these new changes, this game could’ve been much better.
  5. The strategy elements and the point-and-click system bog the action down in this game.
  6. While the first FSW was considered somewhat revolutionary, it was something different and unique, only one sequel later the game seems a bit one dimensional and stale.
  7. Ten Hammers maintains a good presentation and adds some minor control tweaks, but overall you're left with a strategy experience that feels very familiar if you played the first game.
  8. FSW: Ten Hammers is not a sequel for people who didn't enjoy the slow action of the original. The pace is exactly the same here, with slightly more player control and all of the same general ugliness you remember.
  9. 60
Perhaps the weakest addition is a new targeting mode that allows the actual aiming of shots.
  10. Although Ten Hammers has some nice touches, it is nowhere near the gameit could and should have been. This is a case of great original, poor sequel syndrome, I’m afraid.
  11. Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK
Entertaining and absorbing. This is an intelligent, testing mix of action and strategy spoilt only by its motor-mouthed characters. [May 2006, p.86]
  12. Ten Hammers is as close as a game has come to representing the genuine battlefield experience. It may have more strategy than you bargained for but damn, it's painfully addictive.
  13. Edge Magazine
It’s on Live, though, that Ten Hammers truly explodes into life, the absolute requirement for tactics creating jumpy matches that outgun anything so far on Xbox or its baby brother. [Apr 2006, p.92]
  14. games(TM)
A cerebral and unusual war game with issues that don’t, in the end, detract from its effectiveness. [Apr 2006, p.122]
  15. Expectations are high for this sequel to the highly acclaimed ultra-realistic simulation shooter. Sadly it doesn't quite deliver, focussing instead on tiny changes to the overall formula.
  16. An unholy level of difficulty squelches the fun, and bullets will frequently find your grunts unless they're behind the most fortress-like of cover.
  17. PSM2 Magazine UK
There's nothing else to touch it in terms of mixing strategy and action, making this another satisfyingly-tough tactical challenge for anyone tired of predictable war-based gun-and-runners. [Apr 2006, p.70]
  18. Pelit (Finland)
A slow-paced and an extremely difficult tactical action game that will appeal to people who like a good game of chess. The PS2 version has been done sufficiently well, too, even if it does look a tad ugly. [Sept 2006]
  19. Game Informer
The Full Spectrum Warrior series has given inspiration to "Brothers in Arms" and 360's "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter", but is still lacking some of its own. [Apr 2006, p.116]
  20. It’s a thinking man’s war game worth a shot if you’re in the mood for something different.
  21. However, fans of the genre will appreciate the added commands and improved AI of the game. Whether these improvements are enough to purchase the second title in the Full Spectrum Warrior series will most likely be decided by a game rental first.
  22. The rigidly linear levels with obvious trigger points, the failure to evolve the basic gameplay and the newly random nature of the effectiveness of cover all conspire to devalue what was a novel and rather fun original.
  23. Electronic Gaming Monthly
It's spoiled by painfully awkward gameplay, lobotomized recruits (on both sides), and a million annoying ways to die. [Apr 2006, p.95]
  24. 70
Ultimately, the biggest flaw with Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers is polish. Everything here works decently enough, but it all feels like minor tweaks as opposed to major innovation.
  25. The strategy play can sometimes feel mechanical, but budding tacticians will undoubtedly love it.
  26. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
It's nice that Pandemic attempted to improve "Full Spectrum Warrior", trying to make it feel more like a game and less like something based on military theory. But the host of said improvements take FSW from and interesting if tame combat simulator to an irritating way to spend an afternoon. [July 2006, p.76]
