Loving the freedom of flight, he dreams of one day leaving his small island and reaching the mainland. In the woods not far away, Alfina rides alone on a horse-drawn carriage. She is a Communicator, one of the few who can speak with the Guardians, gods that protect the world. She is hurrying to a temple to take the place of her brother, Emelious. Resentment of his obligated duty as a Communicator has turned Emelious into a cruel and violent being filled with hate. Fate will bring together Yuki and Alfina just as the world is about to fall apart. [Square Enix] Expand

A marvelous game with a few minor flaws that don't really kill the experience. With a lovable cast, mouth-watering graphics, and an innovative battle system, Grandia III is an excellent addition to any RPG aficionado's collection. [JPN Import]

Does almost everything well, from the involving story and beautiful graphics to the compelling characters, and does one thing - the battle system - better than any other RPG we've seen. [Issue#139, p.90]
  3. Grandia III hooked me in every other way possible, which is an amazing feat no doubt. I love it and am glad to have experienced it. But unlike RPGs with a great story, which I must experience again and again, I can't see myself playing through Grandia III a second time.
  4. Grandia III is a game filled with polish, slick visuals, and a fantastic battle system. It just happens to be bogged down by a fairly mediocre story.
  5. Grandia III is nowhere near perfect and it's definitely not one of the better rpgs on the system. But the battles are so much fun that most won't really mind when the story falls to pieces. [JPN Import]
  6. It’s not like there aren’t any genuinely emotional moments in Grandia 3, but they’re balanced out by all of the cornball cheesiness. Still, if you can forgive this, and are up to the challenge of the battle system, then Grandia 3’s sprawling worlds are well worth adventuring through. [JPN Import]
  7. If you've got a lot of house work to do, Grandia III might be for you. Do the dishes or clean up the dog's mess while the dire plot unwinds, then plop back onto the couch in time to crack skulls.

Once you get into it, it can take up a lot of your time with missions, powering up the character, learning the different spells etc. From someone who finishes a game a year at best, this one has me hooked. As I wind down into the 45 hour range, I know it's ending - and the mark of a good game for me is: I wish it wasn't. Expand

This is the best game to happen since Final Fantasy! Tactical and challenging battles, easy to follow storyline, and enjoyable challenging bosses.

I think that is defiantly the selling point of this series. In alot of RPGs the combat can get quite tedious after just a few battles. In this game it seems to get more and more fun. I love trying to sneak up on the ememies and give them a smackin! It gives you the initiative in battles. There is also several different ways to counter and combo, it's awsome. I also don't see so much of a chiched story as I do a new twist on the pretty much standard Japaneese RPG storyboard. I'll admit that I am sick of seeing the same thing, 16-17 year old boy on quest of destiny teams up with mousey 15 year old girl. bleh! I wish for once we could have more lead characters like Yuri in Shadow Hearts. I digress though. Yuki actually looks pretty cool. I don't know why the girl is named Alfina though (sounds like something Gordon Shumway eats on Melmack). She also looks like she migrated from the Ys series. Oh well enough complaing. None of this stuff really bothers me. This game is fantastic. A toatal must have for the RPG crowd or just a fun game for anyone looking for something interesting to play. Expand

Granted, the cut scenes and conversations are a tad long and drawn out... I have caught myself snickering now-n-again in amusement at them though. I do like the battle system though.... like when the characters go after more then the one enemy if they don't quite get their quota on the enemy you originally 'sic' them on. The one thing I would really like to see in this game is the ability to explore more of the environment (nothing worst then that impassable grass force field that runs along the path) 'tough stuff'...lol.
