  1. The potentially rewarding aspects of the game are hampered by an overly rigid structure that works at cross-purposes to its non-linearity.
  2. Easily the best Harvest Moon yet. [Jan 2002, p.222]
  3. It's fun for a while, but let's face some facts here – farming is a job, not a game! [Dec 2001, p.93]

About as much fun as watching your tomatoes grow...If you’ve got an agricultural attitude, patience, and a hankering for steady and safe gameplay, you just might be a Harvest Moonie.
  5. Immersive and fun. It's not the type of game you play to beat as fast as you can. It's the kind of game you'll play a little bit every week, for many, many weeks to come.
  6. Of all the Harvest Moon games, Save the Homeland easily has the most solid storyline.

Fans of the series may be puzzled by a few missing features.
  8. It’s the strangest example of pointless effort which turns out to be fun. Avoid real life chores to do virtual ones. That’s my motto!

Harvest Moon gets under your skin that way. You'd never think it would be half as much fun as it inevitably turns out to be...Take our word for it and give this one a try.

I was disappointed and if you are a fan of the HM games, you will be disappointed too.
  11. Your mileage will vary with your patience. [Dec 2001, p.105]
  12. Delightfully open-ended. [Dec 2001, p.164]
  13. It's still too boring and esoteric an experience for some of us to even take seriously. Add an extra point to our score for Save The Homeland if you're a fan of the series, or feel free to ignore whatever we say.
  14. A simplified interface and a stronger focus on plot may alienate some fans of previous games in the series, but there’s an outside chance it will broaden the appeal to a wider audience.

It's relatively solid, yet it brutally murders the open-ended gameplay that made its predecessors so very fun. It was my first HM game. It's relatively solid, yet it brutally murders the open-ended gameplay that made its predecessors so very fun. It was my first HM game. I then tried out A Wonderful Life, and guess what? It didn't remove the stupid time limit, but at least it gave you more time to work with. That's this game's main flaw: there's no time to have fun. You MUST get your goals done before the end of winter. It's nice otherwise, though. Full Review »

Its really fun but what's the point of this game in the end ?? Would be even funner if there we're options when you're doneIts really fun but what's the point of this game in the end ?? Would be even funner if there we're options when you're done with the nine endings. Like get married, move to another town and buy more stuff !! Oh yeah, what's with the big empty spot in front of the farmer shop ? I thought maybe u could open youre own store or something.Harvest moon doesnt have alot of options which makes it pointless in the end. Full Review »

I gave This was definitly the best Harves Moon game of the series. Not only did it bring a great suprise but it also had very nice grahics. I gave it a 9/10 because there are not enough upgrades for your house, only 4 types of crops you can raise, and only 4 animals! Full Review »
