50Feels like a cheap game... The editor, and just about every other aspect of the game needs to be fleshed out a lot more to be a worthwhile game.
-
38Because of the inconsistent graphics and horrible, horrible physics in HSX, the game is virtually unplayable by anybody.
-
55Just about the only thing that makes this a somewhat interesting title is the Create Track mode that allows you go get as creative as you want ... and its easy to use as well.
-
What the game suffers from is an overwhelming lack of personality. The vehicles are generic looking, even for the future, and the rest of the game feels as empty as the abandoned cities the tracks encircle.
-
A nice little blue light special for racing fans. [Mar 2003, p.83]
-
48Isn't worth the cost of an Extra Value Meal, let alone two.
-
Despite the average graphics, sound, and gameplay length, HSX: HyperSonic Extreme is a great racing game that will keep you mesmerized for as long as you play it.
-
60From the look of the graphics to the general feel of the gameplay, we've seen this before -- with the exception of the track editor. But it's not really enough to make the game stand out from the rest of the pack.
-
Sure, it's fast and the courses have all the dips and loops that one would expect, but there's no satisfaction in the piloting of the craft. [Jan 2003, p.79]
-
The lack of weapons really hurts this game big time.
-
If you think toying around with the track editor sounds like $10 worth of fun, check this out. If not, don't bother. [Apr 2003, p.87]
-
50Overall, HSX isn't too bad, but it's definitely behind the times in terms of polygon count, special effects, control, and other such things. [Apr 2003, p.42]
-
70Issues like an AI that is a non-factor while racing and gameplay that appears borrowed without any improvements or updates all chip away at its appeal.
-
30Someone over at Blade Interactive must have been asleep at the wheel when coding this game's sound effects and music.
-
If you have younger kids and you want to get them something safe to play, easy to learn, and wont break the bank than Hypersonic Extreme may be the title to check out.
-
If this game didn't have such a robust (yes, that's right, robust) track creation engine, then HSX would only be worth a weekend rental.
-
The real icing on the cake here though is the incredibly flexible track editor that comes with the game. Not only is extremely complete and fully functional, it is also very easy to use and administer.
