  1. The game is essentially a distillation of everything "cool" about the show, so after about five minutes of play, you start to understand why the show was cancelled. [Feb 2003, p.104]
  2. The game can actually be quite fun for a few minutes, and then the pacing screws everything up with stealthy missions that require a gamer with an iron will to wrestle with the problematic camera.
  3. Stay away from this game at all costs, if you see it in the store, turn and run away now!
  4. We never thought we’d say this but here’s a game that seems to be drawing inspiration from "Minority Report," itself an average, licensed title.

Somewhere along the line the potentially interesting and dynamic action elements careened downhill into a muddy bog of repetition, lack of vision and general malaise, leaving gamers with a dummed-down, half-baked game that doesn't take them anywhere.
  6. Not even fans of the cancelled TV show will find anything remotely resembling fun or enticing gameplay in Dark Angel to justify the rental expense.

The rather simple controls lack any sort of considerable depth that would keep the game interesting. In fact, most of the time, just hitting random buttons will pull off some pretty impressive punches, kicks, and flips.
  8. Of course if you get tired of the Punch button, you can also hit Jump, Kick, or Throw, but you don't really need to. Even "Streets of Rage" required a little more strategy than that.
  9. It's a middle-of-the-road action title with "Matrix"-like effects and bullet time of sorts, which results in an average experience with lots of flash. [Jan 2003, p.40]
  10. Just as Dark Angel is guilty of repetitive character models and backgrounds, the game design is guilty of repetitive action, which is unbelievably stagnant.
  11. The A.I. featured in the game is pretty much an utter embarrassment.
  12. This is a brawler. It allegedly has stealth, too, but it's the most pathetic, poorly done sneaking around I've seen. [Jan 2003, p.96]
  13. I probably got very close to the end, but I just couldn't endure it any longer. The wretched camera angles, the lackluster level design and the repetitious gameplay were more than I could take for a full 25 missions.
  14. Questionable design decisions, terrible implementation, and the apparent lack of faith in a project doomed long before its completion make for a game that is more frustration than fun.
  15. For a game that came out of nowhere Dark Angel delivers the prime time goods and then some. [Jan 2003, p.60]

Unfortunately, the stealth elements fall tragically short of well conceived—it’s more along the lines of comically maddening.
  17. Even wedged between a sesame seed bun and two succulent patties of seasoned beef smothered in fried onions, mustard and barbecue sauce, I couldn't get Dark Angel to taste any better. This game is strictly a chuck steak.
