La Pucelle: Tactics is a tale of betrayal and double cross, monsters in human form and humans in monster form, set in an alternate medieval Europe. The unlikely hero is a smart mouthed and undisciplined sixteen year old who just passed her exorcism exams and her comrades in La Pucelle, a demon hunting squad. Features Dark Portals and Purification: Brand new to the RPG world, use your powers to purify defiled ground and enemies. If pulled off right the effect is like having a super-giant combo. Damage multiple enemies at once, stop new enemies from appearing, strengthen items in real time. Fast leveling system: Items, characters and skills can increase every round of battle for well earned instant gratification. Carry up to 149 items and use them to learn special magic. Turn enemies to allies. Bring up to 8 units into battle. Seize the high ground! Battlefield terrain will vary in height: attacking down is way better than being attacked from above. [Mastiff] Expand

One of the most in-depth strategy RPGs ever. [July 2004, p.6]
  2. Between the bonus stages, hidden areas, and multiple endings, this game could keep you going for months.
  3. La Pucelle doesn't have as many extras as Disgaea, but it is much heavier on the story, the music tracks are incredibly awesome and the voicework is excellent.

The best thing about Nippon Ichi's games is the way they strike such a good balance between accessibility and depth, and La Pucelle is another good example of this philosophy. [July 2004, p.85]
  5. PSM Magazine

Pucelle's rather excellent localization brings the game world to hyper-kinetic, over-the-top life and that, (coupled with many, many gameplay hours), is more than enough to entice RPG fans into Pucelle's worthy fold. [July 2004, p.32]
  6. It combines the storytelling techniques and character designs of a quality anime with a deceptively simple combat system and a plot that can be quite captivating at times.
  7. While it’s unlikely that the inferior graphics and sound would turn away any serious strategy RPG fans, boring gameplay mechanics and glitchy implementation should do the job.

    Pros
    +Similar battle system to Disgaea
+The use of dark portals to do summons and to increase points is unique and could bring potential challenges to players for those that want a challenge
+Event tiles and initiating certain conversations will prompt additional story lines and alternative endings with better rewards
+Great OST and fantastic voice acting

    Cons
    -No New Game+
-Variety of monsters is less than other games in the same universe (i.e. Disgaea)
-You lose some of the characters that you could use near the end of the game which would have been vital especially if you do end game grinding.
