93A spectacular gem of a game that’s for once suitable for just about anyone.
-
90The graphics are simply state of the art. Virtual Lego, and perfectly implemented.
-
The only real complaint that I have is that there are no voiceovers. The game is relatively mute. Fortunately the personality of the characters is able to transcend this limitation but the game is far from silent as it utilizes the incredibly rich, John Williams scores for theme and background music in addition to all of the sound effects from the Lucas library.
-
It may not be the most technically accomplished game to have graced our screens, but the plain and simple fact is that it’s so much fun to play, it’s almost indescribable.
-
90If you don't break into a big, dopey grin while running around shattering LEGO Battle Droids into their component parts, then you should just put videogames down for good -- you've outgrown them.
-
This Lego retelling of the prequels is both a loving tribute and an amusing parody.
-
The game is addictive. I just couldn’t put it down until I was done playing.
-
85This is one game, perhaps the only game, where it's a compliment to say that the graphics are blocky.
-
85It's great being able to play through all three of the latest movies in one sitting, even if their storylines are a little watered down.
-
85There may be other Star Wars games out there but Lego Star Wars covers more in one game than most of them and focuses only on the sequences rather than whole films which makes for excellent gameplay.
-
84Sure, LEGO Star Wars is easy. Sure, it looks like a game for kids. These things are undeniable; however, what else is undeniable is just how much fun that playing this game is, despite its appearance.
-
83I defy any gamer with even a modicum of affection for Star Wars or LEGO to play this game and not have a good time with a big grin on his face.
-
82If you’re a Star Wars fan, even an old school purist like me, you will have a blast playing this game, especially if you have kids to help you out.
-
80That co-op feature makes this among the best kids games out there, because parents and kids can directly play together.
-
80If you're a Star Wars fan wondering where the magic went, look no further.
-
80From start to finish, Lego Star Wars delivers; looks, presentation, gameplay, replay value, none of it lacks polish.
-
80Yes it’s shorter than an Ewok and easier than the dancer with the six tits in Jabba’s Palace, but it’s a jam-packed Death Star of replayable fun - and whether you’re six or sixty, isn’t that everything you could ever dare hope for in a game?
-
80It has everything a family-oriented title needs: it has personality, puzzles, cooperative modes, replay value, low violence, a lack of frustrating difficulty, and most importantly, it has Darth Vader.
-
80Highly recommended for anyone with a sense of humor (that excludes you George Lucas... out, out, OUT!
-
The perfect rental title. Brilliantly playable, beautifully detailed and choking with charisma, it's also linear, too easy and a shallower than a midget's beret.
-
80Most interestingly, the game will appeal to both kids and adults, as its simple pick-up-and-play action is accessible to almost anyone of any age.
-
80Puncturing the pretentious balloon of Star Wars with amusingly colored bricks is a noble goal. And if nothing else, there’s always the light puzzle that triggers NPC disco dancing to a techno remix of the Star Wars music.
-
80The game play is quick and addictive which should satisfy adults, and the puzzles aren't too difficult, but still put up a challenge which should appeal to children.
-
80The gameplay isn't going to challenge hardcore gamers as the enemies simply aren't that tough, but the presentation really shines. [May 2005, p.95]
-
80It's hard to describe just how much better LEGO Star Wars is than it should be. All the pieces just fit together perfectly. It's cute yet cunning, easy but addictive, and simultaneously light-hearted and intense.
-
Oh man, General Grievous is a cool boss. He has four lightsabers! Four!
-
80Whatever you do, don't let its cute appearance fool you. The force is strong with this one!
-
Lego Star Wars is really fun, friendly and colourful little game. It’s not too complicated, but still very entertaining. You have to be a hardened cynic or a Star Wars hater not to like this game. The Force is indeed with the blocks. [June 2005, p.59]
-
One of those games that needs to be played by everyone in their lifetime, if only for five minutes, just to see it in action. It's packed with loads of humor, decent gameplay, and probably more Star Wars fan service than any game bearing the franchise's name to date.
-
79The combination of humor, accessible gameplay and Lego-fied Star Wars is tough to beat. Sure it’s a short and simple game, but it’s nice to see a developer/publisher team take a chance on something a little different, and end up making an enjoyable product.
-
The presentation in LSW is excellent. The game’s visuals are detailed and the Lego look is superb.
-
76The novelty of watching a little Lego person version of Obi-Wan Kenobi duel it out with Darth Maul certainly accounts for a large portion of the game's appeal, but on its own merits it's a fairly fun, inventive little game.
-
There's a goofy pleasure in seeing animated Lego figures pantomime scenes from the movies, and the game's puzzles and battles are undemanding but fun.
-
The perfect party game for nerds. [May 2005, p.111]
-
75It's even possible, with a little effort, to unlock everything here in the time span of a rental. While it is an elegant game, Lego Star Wars' simplicity is an unavoidable weak point and it would be negligent to recommend this game wholeheartedly to the average gamer.
-
75Even though it’s short and not a technical marvel, this is still the most fun I’ve ever had playing a Star Wars game.
-
Achieves what regular Star Wars, in recent history, has been unable to do: deliver a children’s experience that is fun and engaging for adults as well.
-
The game's short length, infinite continues, and co-op mode make it an excellent rental for older folks, while kids will be happy to replay the levels to death and track down every last secret. [May 2005, p.125]
-
Kids are often underestimated, but that doesn’t mean their games should be. Lego Star Wars has an appeal that goes beyond age, even if it’s one that rarely goes beyond 20 minutes at a time. [May 2005, p.84]
-
The sheer simplicity of the game is likely to affect the duration of the game, but while it lasts LEGO Star Wars is enjoyable and has an understanding of the Star Wars brand above many others.
-
If you mature, and don't get Star Wars at all it is possible that you may consider that this is more an quality Lego Star Wars product than it is a gripping Lego Star Wars game. This is one for the younglings. Move along.
-
70Yes, it looks childish, is a bit too easily beaten, and is based on the lackluster Star Wars prequels (all three of them) - but it's also a fun game with charm to spare. [May 2005, p.74]
-
70Basically the same as the Star Wars Lego kits. You'll complete it in under a day, and then put it up on the shelf, never to be played with again.
-
While it won't keep you occupied for more than the length of a rental, Lego Star Wars is a surprisingly satisfying addition to my video game library.
-
This game is also one of the easiest the galaxy has ever seen. [May 2005, p.52]
-
40The core gameplay is somewhat lacking. ‘But it’s for kids,’ we hear you cry. Maybe so, but even kids - or those who are just young at heart - will no doubt want a challenge that lasts longer than it would take to watch the original trilogy. [May 2005, p.109]
