  • Summary: Major League Baseball 2K5 debuts On Command Baserunning, that includes active picture-in-picture baserunning, and new gameplay features called Maximum Sliding and Baseburner Mode. Active picture-in-picture baserunning delivers both an exciting presentation style and an intuitive method to precisely control runners. The new baserunning mechanic utilizes the right analog thumbstick to choose how baserunners slide -- head or feet first -- in conjunction with hook sliding left or right of the base. Players will be able to reach a base quicker, get up more quickly from a slide, or avoid being tagged out with the new freedom found in Maximum Sliding. Baseburner Mode allows the gamer to play any 'at-bat' through the perspective of any baserunner, delivering precision control to gamers. [2K Games] Expand

  1. Even with the limited franchise feature, 2K5 is still one of the better sports titles on the market today, and extremely affordable for any baseball fans.
  2. Questionable fielding holds it back from capturing the Golden Glove. "MVP" still holds that honor, but Major Leauge's innovative techniques make it this year's most exciting baseball game. [March 2005, p.118]

While MLB 2K5 is considerably better than its predecessor, it remains the second best baseball game available.
  4. A fantastic presentation and good extras anchor a highly enjoyable game - only its baserunning and fielding are a step behind its competitors. [Apr 2005, p.110]

    Awesome.
  2. Sure, this game has its glitches, but it's a game from 2005, so they're lovable glitches. None are so egregious as the left-handed power glitch from MVP 2004, and I actually prefer 2k5 to the MVP games (scandalous I know). Baseball games for a long time lagged behind other sports such as football in their level of realism, and this game is a bit too homer-happy and the computer AI does some strange things, but it's still quite a good game. I loved ESPN baseball last year, but I found this year's version a little hard for me to hit with no cursor. The pitching is different and there is a lot of stuff jammed on the screen at one time. I love the ESPN presentation, and you can't beat Jon and Joe announcing, but the gameplay is different than last year to me. It seems a lot quicker paced this year. Expand

Too many annonying bugs make this very frustrating for a baseball fan (too many wild pitches, roster management problems, stats bubs etc).
