The game is fun for those looking for a quick diversion, and it's realistic enough to keep sim players happy.
  2. It's tied tightly to last year's game with a digital umbilical cord, trying desperately to rectify the mistakes of the past with little regard for the future. It could have been so much more.
  3. Baseball fans who own a PS2 (and a PSP for that case) can rest assured that Sony didn't rest on its laurels and put out a pretty decent baseball game.
  4. Sony's MLB series goes from strength from strength, with a more refined controls and tiny improvements and creates a very satisfying and emmensely fun baseball title.
  5. falls down due to graphical flaws that, while forgivable on PSP, just aren’t when it comes to PS2 titles.
  6. After several years of completely mediocre showings, this is the first time the developers have produced something truly worth playing.
  7. I truly never expected Sony to drop a baseball game of this caliber in my lap, especially after the endless string of duds that have rolled out of 989 Studios of late. In fact, MLB 06 alone very nearly makes up for the seven years of bunk since, well... darn, let’s see..."Coolboarders 2."

The Show is a beautiful game, and it offers the best fantasy and create-a-player options. However, the gameplay is starting to show its age, and is in need of an upgrade. [Apr 2006, p.124]
  9. While it may not innovate or take any big chances, MLB '06: The Show has all the important features, options and settings you could want, a veritable Swiss-army knife of a baseball game.
  10. 80
Baseball fans might want to jump into all the new features, but really, this is the same basic game from last year, though a nifty online MLB news service is a nice added bonus for all those MLB fantasy fanatics.
  11. The online component's enjoyable, King of the Diamond is fantastic, and the game's various bells and whistles, including the commentary which I absolutely love, are superb.
  12. MLB 06: The Show is a grand slam of a portable baseball game.
  13. Let’s just say that the game looks great by PlayStation 2 standards. Double plays really feel like double plays – diving for grounders and the physics of the ball are amazing.
  14. All of the little improvements, and there are tons of them, make MLB '06: The Show a masterful follow-up to last year's game.
  15. 80
It plays great, has all the online options you could hope for (though more lag than you'd like), gives us a few really cool new ways to play, and wraps it all up with slick presentation and admirable audio.
  16. Take all this finesse and arcade action online, and MLB '06 gets even better, with tournaments and leader boards to boot. Overall, it's one of the best baseball games ever, on any platform.
  17. The Show is THE baseball game to get. It's got the best batting and pitching controls, the most entertaining mini-games, and the most replay value.
  18. The game of baseball is represented perfectly in MLB 06: The Show, and not only is this a candidate for best baseball game of the year, but possibly best sports game as well.
  19. MLB is a lot of fun to play and will give gamers plenty to do throughout the baseball season. The Show is definitely recommended for the casual or hardcore fan alike.
  20. The added features flesh out things, but much of the focus was on this and not any sort of new gameplay enhancements or systems. The result is still a solid game of baseball, just a familiar one.
  21. This game allows you to be involved as much as you would like to be. You can sit back and just play the games, and let the system make the team decisions for you. Alternatively, you can let the system control the players, and you can make the back office decisions about who to play, how much to pay people, etc.

A good baseball game, but not great... Apart from a new mini-game and the inclusion of Rivalry mode, MLB 06: The Show doesn't really do anything revolutionary to the game system except fix a number of bugs that plagued "MLB 2005."
  23. It's deep on game modes, and while nothing is new in the gameplay department, it's still solid.
  24. The greatest baseball game of this console generation.
  25. PSM Magazine
We could go on and on, but to put it simply, MLB '06: The Show is one of the best baseball game ever on any platform. [May 2006, p.74]
  26. 85
This rock-solid baseball sim features improved hitting and pitching mechanics, and addictive-as-Red Bull mini-games.
  27. More than any other release in the past, 'The Show' captures all of the intricacies and the essence of the great game itself.
  28. 80
With the slightly worn graphics engine and the advances of EA's "NCAA" -- notably the analog throwing and batting -- it's impossible to call The Show the best baseball title on the market. It is, however, a wonderfully well-built game that has all manner of detail to please every conceivable baseball fan.

Solid game, although the interface needs a bit more help. The way to unlock jerseys for the game is very inconsistent.
