The game of baseball is represented perfectly in MLB 06: The Show, and not only is this a candidate for best baseball game of the year, but possibly best sports game as well.
This game allows you to be involved as much as you would like to be. You can sit back and just play the games, and let the system make the team decisions for you. Alternatively, you can let the system control the players, and you can make the back office decisions about who to play, how much to pay people, etc.
The game is fun for those looking for a quick diversion, and it's realistic enough to keep sim players happy.
The added features flesh out things, but much of the focus was on this and not any sort of new gameplay enhancements or systems. The result is still a solid game of baseball, just a familiar one.
Baseball fans who own a PS2 (and a PSP for that case) can rest assured that Sony didn't rest on its laurels and put out a pretty decent baseball game.
After several years of completely mediocre showings, this is the first time the developers have produced something truly worth playing.
This franchise desperately needs to spice up - and after this year, clean up - the gameplay. [Apr 2006, p.100]
