A truly fantastic title. It's extremely well done and offers the best MX and ATV racing combination in town.
  2. PSM Magazine
The best and most important change is in the driving model, which corrects the overly touchy control seen in last year's "MX Unleashed." [Apr 2005, p.72]
  3. Play Magazine
Essentially, with MX vs. ATV Unleashed, Rainbow has perfected everything they introduced as the pioneers of next generation off-road racing. [Apr 2005, p.74]
  4. In addition to a stunning physics engine, MX vs. ATV has really nice graphics. Well designed courses, high detail models, and simply a great attention to a nice, clean look makes this one of the nicer realistic racing titles I've seen.
  5. This game has a plethora of options that will keep you entertained for hours on end.

Unfortunately, the soundtrack is flatter than a bottle of Mountain Dew past its "Best By" date, but the polished gameplay makes the racing action a total gas.

While MX vs. ATV Unleashed does bear flaws that its predecessor did not, such as the long load times, superficial use of vehicles and questionable championship layout, these are outweighed by the terribly entertaining gameplay and pretty graphics that it delivers.
  8. Lots of content and lots of things to do are always a good thing in a game, and it's definitely worth picking up as opposed to renting, mainly because you'll never get everything in the game done in a rental.
  9. Innovation isn't really the key here. It's more expected standards for your buck.
  10. Game Informer
While all the components from the franchise are here, it lacks that over-arching cohesion. [Apr 2005, p.116]
  11. The vehicles are fairly well balanced, with bikes being able to grab more air while the ATVs have easier landings. In fact, that's the biggest issue with Unleashed: It's often difficult to judge where your bike wheels are lined up, which leads to a multitude of crashes.

I'm bummed that the game is much more menu-driven; I really am. However, it's still an amazing racing title.
  13. The subtle tweaks and improvements come to a head here in an ATV AND MX game that satisfies, but doesn't offer anything new.
  14. There's something innately wonderful about a game that lets you take a dirt bike onto a track and perform stunts, while simultaneously trying to win a race against an ATV, a monster truck, and a golf cart.

A ton of different play modes await too, assuring you won’t tire of the disc anytime soon.
  16. Had the multiplayer been deeper, it would have easily been an editor's choice.
  17. Taking equal parts of their two past franchises, they have come up with one great motocross game.
  18. AceGamez
MX Vs. ATV Unleashed is immense. This game is bigger than Barry Bethel's belly before he went on the Slim Fast Plan. The list of options and challenges seems almost endless.
  19. Pelaaja (Finland)
It’s nice to see that amongst the Gran Turismos of the world there’s still space for light-hearted and fun arcade racers. MX vs. ATV has nothing do with realism, instead it pits monster trucks, motorbikes and air planes racing against each other. This is a very finely honed and fun game, which will entertain you for a long time to come. [July 2005, p.61]
  20. MX is probably the finest off-road racer to date. A long-awaited and worthy heir to the Motocross title and definitely worth the asking price. Highly recommended.
  21. Because the air races found in MX vs. ATV Unleashed are so frustrating, one wonders why they even made it into the game in the first place, especially when you consider how fun the game is with two (or more) wheels on the ground.
  22. Pelit (Finland)
A somewhat old-fashioned driving game with nice controls. Unfortunately, driving games today should offer something more innovative to really stand out. [Aug. 05]
  23. The huge amount of vehicles makes the repetitive nature of the game not such a big problem and the physics of the game keep it in the realism side of things, but also offers pick up and play.
  24. 75
Some great rainy weather fun. But nothing spetacular.

This game overall was pretty good. The graphics were all there and the pain that the riders got when falling off the bikes was pretty coolThis game overall was pretty good. The graphics were all there and the pain that the riders got when falling off the bikes was pretty cool too. I would have liked to see even more vehicles and better controls for the airplanes. Those things are probably the worst controlling things ever conceived in that game. Despite this, the game was well made and it was cool that you could do a free roam on all the maps. Full Review »

This is pretty good game. It is challenging, and the variety of vehicles is a plus. AI seems a bit agressive even on the standard setting. This is pretty good game. It is challenging, and the variety of vehicles is a plus. AI seems a bit agressive even on the standard setting. Guess that is what makes the game such a challenge. Only complaint I have is with what seem to be random vehicle crashes. You can make a jump twice and the third time around you will crash for no apparent reason. And there are issues with the hill climb, It will stop the race and say you are not making forward progress, when in fact you are moving. Other than that it is a good game. Frustrating at times, but still fun. Full Review »
