Not worth buying or even renting; play it at Wal-mart or stop by a friend's house to get a taste of it. Fun for about 10, maybe 20 minutes. A complete mash fest that lacks any worthwhile single player mode. Combos are minimal and each character has only one special, which gets boring to watch after the second time. I better watch the anime movie than to play this game. But I aleady bought it since I'm a big fan of Naruto. The ninjutsu didn't meet my expectation. Too bad. The worst is the original voice is dub to English! Dank, what's in your mind to hear KAGE BUNSHIN NO JUTSU to Shadow replication style??? I hate it!

Okay, this game is not made for every fighting game fan (if you dislike 2d fighters, or super smash brothers type gameplay). Naruto is, however, the best anime licensed game I have ever played (and I have played many, many licensed games being a dbz fan). Surprisingly, there is a good amount of depth in this game if you TAKE the TIME to learn the counter system and when to use the Okay, this game is not made for every fighting game fan (if you dislike 2d fighters, or super smash brothers type gameplay). If you are not a fighting game fan, let this stay on the shelf. If, however, you do enjoy a good fighter, or happen to be a Naruto fan, at least rent this game. Expand

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja is definetely a huge surprise. This game goes beyond the fanbase to appeal to fans of the fighting genre in general. While it may not be for everyone, it's still a fun and lasting experience.

This game mixes in humor and an intresting battle system similar to Super Smash Bros. Although, the game lacks depth in a few key areas, the overall experience is worth the $40 for everyday fighting fans, and it is a must buy for any Naruto fan.

The basic truth is that this game was released in 2003 in Japan under the title "Narutimate Hero", and is greatly overshadowed by the two sequels that haven't made their way through translation, Narutimate Hero 2 and 3. But if you're one who watches fansubbed versions of the japanese episodes, this will be painfully behind the times in terms of the story, and you'd be better off importing a copy of Narutimate Hero 3, which boasts around 60 different characters compared to the 12 in Ultimate Ninja. I am a huge Naruto fan, and a huge fan of fighting games, but this didn't hold my attention, the crappy story mode, the limited amount of characters, and boring versus and mission modes, hold this game back from being fun.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja is a 2D fighting game that can get tense at times but mostly repetitive. The story is quite cool. You can breeze through it in 2 hours if your pretty good at the game. The versus mode is great util you burned out all of the enjoyment from the game. So all that is left is the "extras mode which is where you view collectibles. The game is juts totally multidimensional; easily the freshest fighting game to come along since "Powerstone". [july 2006, p.71]

Really, if Naruto's your thing, then this game is right up your alley--but even the most hardcore fighting-game fanatics will get a kick out of it as well. [July 2006, p.75]

Even so, for gamers who don't know jutsu from chakra, don't expeect the game to give you any real incentive to play independent of its source material. [July 2006, p.106]
