  1. A decent game that's best played in the story "Life" mode.
  2. In practice, it’s a forgettable game that offers less than its competition. Instead of taking an evolutionary step up from last year’s version of The Life, the game is content to shovel out more of the same.

The defensive flaws from last year still plague this years game, the additions to the court don’t necessarily make the game any more challenging; in fact, in some ways it makes it way too easy.
  4. The game is still quick, making it a couple tenths more impressive than "NBA Live 07." But its gameplay is repetitive and mirrors that of the last edition – minus the cheapness.
  5. They’ve improved very little on the court or in the Season mode, but they still tell a nice story. Playing this game still keeps me optimistic that the franchise will continue and could potentially thrive.
  6. Entertainment is entertainment, but since this isn't really an RPG, it would've been nice to see a deeper dynasty mode.
  7. I think the biggest downer is the missing franchise mode. How else is one to see how their management skills translate to the product on the court?

Nba '07 is a pretty good action RPG and a decent basketball game. Unfortunately, the two don't quite add up to the outstanding effort necessary to be a contender in the sports genre. [Dec. 2006, p.128]
  9. The Life is a flawed, yet fun basketball game that's worth a look for anyone that's searching for a different take on the sport.
  10. NBA 07 is best for those looking for a more simple and arcade like basketball game or for those who are looking for a bit more from their sports games than just playing franchise mode all of the time.
  11. Lackluster graphics, some bad gameplay mechanics, and load times that last so long that you could build and finish a sandwich before it’s done all equal a package that’s not worth it for casual basketball fans, especially with better titles out there.
  12. Unless you really want to get behind the hard-knock life of an NBA star, your money would best be spent elsewhere.
  13. Even if The Life isn't perfect, what with gobs of unbearably long load times, it's a unique twist that no other hoops title offers. So it doesn't have much, if any, true replay value - that's OK. It's compelling, and the best part of a game that is otherwise mostly overshadowed by its counterparts.

Hardcore basketball fans will groan at the old-school gameplay of NBA 07, but it's obvious the game wasn't developed with them in mind. It offers a fun little hoops offering for those who aren't sticklers for detail, and The Life is a nice change of pace for sports games.
  15. Having introduced the revolutionary story-driven basketball title last year, Sony unfortunately takes a few steps back with an unpolished gameplay and severely dated visuals for its sequel.
  16. 50
The problems on defense, the monotony of the wait for the pulsating circles, and the frustrating goals in the Life mode really drag the game down.

So while the story's a boon, this doesn't come close to competing with "NBA 2K7." [Holiday 2006, p.86]
  18. And while Sony does take an interesting new approach to the basketball genre, I simply cannot recommend NBA 07 at full retail price.

The first 5 mintues of this game are terrible. The gameplay is sloppy and the story line isn't really "The Life", it's a waste of The first 5 mintues of this game are terrible. The gameplay is sloppy and the story line isn't really "The Life", it's a waste of life. I recommend another NBA video game because this one doesn't make a basket. Full Review »
