The defensive flaws from last year still plague this years game, the additions to the court don’t necessarily make the game any more challenging; in fact, in some ways it makes it way too easy.
  2. The Life is a flawed, yet fun basketball game that's worth a look for anyone that's searching for a different take on the sport.
  3. The game is still quick, making it a couple tenths more impressive than "NBA Live 07." But its gameplay is repetitive and mirrors that of the last edition – minus the cheapness.
  4. Game Informer
Of course, it's better than last year, but it still has a ways to go before it supplants The Life as the reason to get this game. [Nov. 2006, p.134]
  5. If this is the best basketball game current-gen has to offer than I’m really glad next-gen is already here.

Hardcore basketball fans will groan at the old-school gameplay of NBA 07, but it's obvious the game wasn't developed with them in mind. It offers a fun little hoops offering for those who aren't sticklers for detail, and The Life is a nice change of pace for sports games.
  7. GamePro
Nba '07 is a pretty good action RPG and a decent basketball game. Unfortunately, the two don't quite add up to the outstanding effort necessary to be a contender in the sports genre. [Dec. 2006, p.128]

The problems on defense, the monotony of the wait for the pulsating circles, and the frustrating goals in the Life mode really drag the game down.
  9. Even if The Life isn't perfect, what with gobs of unbearably long load times, it's a unique twist that no other hoops title offers. So it doesn't have much, if any, true replay value - that's OK. It's compelling, and the best part of a game that is otherwise mostly overshadowed by its counterparts.
  10. And while Sony does take an interesting new approach to the basketball genre, I simply cannot recommend NBA 07 at full retail price.
  11. It plays well, and for a PS2 game it shows a lot of firepower. SCEA is doing something different with the genre, and that is always refreshing. It’s not the best looking or sounding game, but the solid gameplay and entertaining story mode make it worth the time of any fan of the genre.
  12. Unless you really want to get behind the hard-knock life of an NBA star, your money would best be spent elsewhere.
  13. Having introduced the revolutionary story-driven basketball title last year, Sony unfortunately takes a few steps back with an unpolished gameplay and severely dated visuals for its sequel.
  14. NBA 07 is best for those looking for a more simple and arcade like basketball game or for those who are looking for a bit more from their sports games than just playing franchise mode all of the time.
  15. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
If it weren't for all the basketball in Sony's new NBA 07, I'd give the go-ahead on trying this one out. [Nov. 2006, p.110]
  16. PSM Magazine
So while the story's a boon, this doesn't come close to competing with "NBA 2K7." [Holiday 2006, p.86]
  17. The game just has a smooth, arcade flow that I really appreciate. The action's fast paced, it's really easy to score, but at the same time, the defense is smart enough to pick off bad passes and swat horrible shots.
  18. In practice, it’s a forgettable game that offers less than its competition. Instead of taking an evolutionary step up from last year’s version of The Life, the game is content to shovel out more of the same.
  19. I think the biggest downer is the missing franchise mode. How else is one to see how their management skills translate to the product on the court?
  20. The presentation is excellent, and the gameplay is as addictive as ever. Those looking at picking this game up for its new features may want to give that some thought seeing as The Life mode, seemingly the games key selling feature, adds no value to the title whatsoever.
  21. Entertainment is entertainment, but since this isn't really an RPG, it would've been nice to see a deeper dynasty mode.
  22. They’ve improved very little on the court or in the Season mode, but they still tell a nice story. Playing this game still keeps me optimistic that the franchise will continue and could potentially thrive.
  23. Lackluster graphics, some bad gameplay mechanics, and load times that last so long that you could build and finish a sandwich before it’s done all equal a package that’s not worth it for casual basketball fans, especially with better titles out there.
  24. A decent game that's best played in the story "Life" mode.

The first 5 mintues of this game are terrible. The gameplay is sloppy and the story line isn't really "The Life", it's a waste of The first 5 mintues of this game are terrible. The gameplay is sloppy and the story line isn't really "The Life", it's a waste of life. I recommend another NBA video game because this one doesn't make a basket. Full Review »
