Jul 20, 2013While this tries to be a "Spin off" of the popular Romance of the Three Kingdom Game series most of what made that game series popular isn't in this game. First off the stats system is confusing in this game, The ROTK stat system was plain and simple: the higher the ability the officer the more chance with taking territory here in Rise to Power it is all based on how many troops you have and whose allied with who that's it nothing RTS about it just make sure you are allied with right daimyo and you will take Japan by the sword in no time. Also the difficulty setting in this game doesn't matter because the A.I is so unpredictable it's very frustrating. Next off is the lack of create officer portraits most of them are lacking and others you don't really want so you are force to use Historical Portraits to satisfy but the problem is who wants to use those i want the "CREATED" ones and not the ones that are already taken. the tutorial does it's job but like i said just: ally with the right daimyo or daimyos rather and you will take Japan in no time. the scenario's are next to lackluster especially "In the Wake of Honnoji" if you play that scenario nothing really happens that much just a bunch of land grabbing daimyo and nothing really eventful and since this is based on the Warring States of Japan where is the "historical" moments if it's 1561 and Uesugi and Takeda have taken key territory where is their epic showdown? oh yeah that's right..... IT DOESN'T HAPPEN!!!! and lastly there is no up to 8 players in this game the autoplay button is broken why in the world you have to use ONE button in game with RTS elements and a A.I system that is on a coffee spree? yep no way to that
so in the end while the game is cool controlling your own Samurai Warlord if you were hoping for a ROTK gameplay style since it was created by the same guy that did ROTK then you will have to look somewhere else or deal with all of these shortcomings… Full Review »
