Okami shames them simply by being the genuine article: A stunningly gorgeous and unique masterpiece that effortlessly blends art and storytelling with puzzles and amusement. Miss this landmark effort at your peril. [Oct. 2006, p.78]
  2. Okami’s single player campaign is one of the most ambitious we’ve ever seen, and with its score of collectible items, trees to save and animals to feed as well as characters you like and a story you’ll want to revisit, this is a game you could easily wind up playing twice or thrice.
  3. The replay value for this game is immense as the storyline, sidequesting, and searches for those really rare items just never gets old.
  4. Simply one of the best games to come out.
  5. What Okami ultimately offers is a satisfying adventure with memorable characters, intuitive play mechanics, and an astonishing visual presentation. Simply, it’s a ton of fun to play.
  6. Okami's stunning good looks give it the appearance of a cross between a cartoon and a traditional Japanese ink-and-watercolor painting, and perhaps best of all, the game keeps going and going for much longer than most other games like it.

I have to say, in terms of presentation, Okami by far is the bet game I’ve ever seen...However, games are meant to be played. And honestly, between the humor that falls flat at times, the worst plot twist I’ve seen in a game since college, and the sheer lack of challenge in the game, Okami falls well short of greatness.

    +Great Zelda-like gameplay
    +awesome and memorable soundtrack
    +nice art-style that still works
+tight controls that do what you want them to do
    +a lot to do
+great use of Japanese mythology and culture to create a living, appealing world
    +varied environments

-almost a little too long to the point where some segments really feel like filler
-somewhat annoying voices that require some time to get used to
-the game tries really hard to make you believe that you’ve reached the end of the game after a few dungeons with a BIG final dungeon-style dungeon and a big, but ultimately easy final boss-like boss fight. It was very convincing, but turns out that was just the final boss of the ”intro” I guess? Yes, the game really is THAT long.

While some of the more Japanese related undertones and meanings A refreshing breath into a increasingly stale selection of games for the PS2. While some of the more Japanese related undertones and meanings may be lost on the international audience, this story-rich and graphically impressive folktale mashup is proof that you don't need extreme violence and cutting edge graphics to create an utterly absorbing game. If you're looking for your plain old violent game with explosions and testosterone laden posturing, move on. However, if you're looking for a story rich and simply entertaining way to spend the next couple weekends, this game is for you. Expand

The minute I started up the game I was The gameplay is excellent, but my opinion of it is dramitacally lower than BEFORE I purchased it. The minute I started up the game I was presented with utter disappointement at the horrible imatation of dialogue that was given to the opening narrative. It was such an annoying sound I was actaully cringing. My friend comes out of the living room laughing at me "so this is the game you were raving about? You should ask for your money back." It was so annoying my wife yelled at me from across the house "I don't know what your doing with the TV but stop it!" Finally, I had to put the darn thing on mute just to with stand the horrible voice (which cannot be skipped by the way). Fortunately, when I finally got to actual gameplay, Okami lived up to my expectations. And while the rest of the characters still use the imitation of speech for their dialogue, it is no where near as bad as what was used in the opening story. Perhaps I should give this game a higher rating, perhaps not. It's been a long time since a game actually gave me a headache. Expand
