  1. If you don't have the time/patience to really pour yourself into this game for months on end, it's hard to even recommend this as a rental.

To get that sense of accomplishment, you'll have to endure an almost relentless level of tedium. If you have that kind of patience, by all means give the game a shot, but only if you have that kind of patience.
  3. Fans get everything they're looking for, with a fresh look and new options. Newcomers will find a slow, tedious experience with inexplicit detailing of progress and overwhelming information and menus.
  4. The strategy is complex and rewarding, but the menu shuffling and extremely slow pace won't earn the series any new fans.

XI is fantastic when playing against another player rather than the CPU, which is unfortunate because there's no online play. Ultimately, RTK XI is a game you should rent before you buy it. [Mar 2007, p.62]
  6. Longtime addicts that have kept up with the series and crave more of its rare gameplay will eat it up. Gamers that have never cared about or have never heard of the series don't have any reasons to give it a whirl. There's really no getting around it. Either you like this style of game or you never will.
  7. 60
Basically, if looks aren’t important to you; if a great personality and big brain is your thing, this is the game for you.
  8. I love history. I love a good story. I love a good game based on history, a good story, or both. The problem with RTK is that the scenarios take too long to complete.

This version steps back from the RPG elements in 7, 8, and 10 and returns to a more old school approach. Single-screen for logistics and combat. Best graphics of any (including XII's, IMHO) RoTK game.
The dueling and debate systems aren't as good (RE: involved) as X, but the unit combat is vastly improved. This iteration is easily my favorite of them all. The PS2 version is spectacular, despite not having a mouse, but the load-times might deter some. PC is preferable.
