What it lacks in innovation it more than makes up in style, humor and solid game mechanics. Controls feel smooth and responsive and the action is always brisk. The inclusion of evolutionary transformations is an especially nice touch.

It looks amazing, sounds great, and most importantly, it's a lot of fun. What's even more impressive is that all of this entertainment is offered at such a reasonable price.
  3. Scaler is fun and easy to play. Its colorful characters will be sure to satisfy the children out there.
  4. You've seen all of this stuff in at least a dozen other games, but the whole package is well put together and surprisingly enjoyable.
  5. The fast rollercoaster rides and the various lizard forms are fun. Too bad the levels are too simple and straight-forward. [Feb. 05]
  6. The graphics might alarm the purist but they’re big, bold and lurid, just the kind of thing for the eight year old in the house.
  7. This blue lizard offers way more than a certain purple dragon at over half the cost. Scaler's high speed may remind some of a certain other blue creature, but since he is only making revivals of his earlier days, why not try a game with a totally next-generation look and feel, but without all those camera glitches?
  8. To be fair, the game is aimed at kids and it’s by no means poor – the fact that it’s available for less than twenty quid doesn’t exactly hurt either.

While it does lack in certain graphical aspects and contains some fairly linear worlds, the game's concept is unique and the transformation feature really adds a lot of variety to the gameplay.
  10. Scaler was never going to set the gaming world alight, but if you're looking for something to while away a few more of those cold winter hours, you could do much, much worse.
  11. Like a welcome blast from the past, taking us back into pure platform-filled levels with a great range of designs, all enhanced by the gameplay variation that the five transformations provide.
  12. It’s not entirely engaging or original, but it is fun. It’s attractive, sounds nice, and the story—for all its faults—can be ignored safely with no detrimental effects.
  13. Despite being a so-called "budget" game, Scaler's production values are more in line with full-priced software. The graphics are sharp, the polygon count is high, the sight distance is far, the bosses are large, and there's a goodly amount of animation to see (not just in the characters, but in the environment as well).
  14. Does what it intends to do and that is to provide players, specifically younger players with an addictive but classic style platformer immersed in gorgeous graphics and a mix of unique features.
  15. This just isn't an especially engaging game, so it's unlikely that anyone past the youngest of audiences will get too much fun from it.
  16. Awful story aside, Scaler is a well-constructed game, with lush, colorful graphics and ten big levels packed with exotic creatures and scenery. [Jan 2005, p.78]
  17. "Ratchet & Clank" fans may turn up their noses at the largely failed attempts at humour in the dialogue, but if your Christmas games are already losing their appeal, you could do a lot worse than this, especially for the price.
  18. It does well by the proven conventions of the games before it; The story is, at the very least, entertaining to watch unfold and there’s more than enough game for $20.
  19. This game is too hard for little gamers to earn their platformer wings, and too annoying for the rest of us, who will have seen all the worthwhile bits before, to grace with our time.
  20. The only people we can imagine buying this are confused parents who do not understand the world of the mystical home entertainment that is the videogame.

I love this game, it's great, but I kinda came on this site to see if there was any cheats. I mean I know it's more challenging without them, but I can't seem to get passed the big lobster thing, the thing that follows you in the air and it shoots those things at you and stuff so if you have any cheats you could send me an email and stuff. But ya I love this game it's like my favorite game even better than grand theft auto San Andreas. Full Review »

I could'nt believe it ... for that price I had more fun than any game that came out this year.

This game doesnt know what it wants to be. Ratch and clank? Jak and Daxter? Crash Bandicoot? Spyro? This is clearly a platformer that came out too late to succeed. With many elements featured in other games this is probably something youve already played hundreds of times over. But, that doesnt make it bad. By the time this was out we already had, Jak and daxter and Ratchet and Clank, 2 far superior games that were big in scale and received more ettention as a result.
Scaler suffored from being the last born, the black sheep, the last sip of juice at the bottom of the glass that you dont bother to consume.
This games nothing new, but it sure is better than it seems. Probably one of the most hidden of gems ive come across.
