  1. An interesting fusion of two very different game types - it's just a shame they've been cobbled together so crudely. [Jan 2006, p.112]
  2. Those wanting an action game will be disappointed at the lack of action while the strategy and RPG aspects are too shallow for the sophisticated gamer.

Shaman king: Power of Spirit attempts to combine turn based strategy with a fighting game and offers a mediocre to poor experience. The game spends its first half trying to emulating the anime only to go on a severe tangent that to my knowledge has nothing to do with the source material. The fighting feels really stiff, and usually results in backing an enemy into the corner to thwack away at them with your sword. If time had been spent making this a purely turn based game I could image it being much better, cause some of the strategy elements work fine, but there's not enough of it. The manga style cut scenes are very text heavy and boring. Too much information is thrown at you and will disengage a casual player. Even for fans who can withstand having information they already know regurgitated at them, it diverges too far from the shaman king story for it to be of interest and feels like it had originally meant to be a completely different game altogether .
