The game remains faithful to the source material and blends two distinct gameplay styles into an entertaining hybrid. Fans of the series should find this a great addition to their Shaman King collection.
  2. The humor and style will charm many, but those looking for a hardcore experience in any of the game's genres should look elsewhere. [Jan 2005, p.125]
  3. SK's not for everyone, but fans should be beside themselves. [Jan 2005, p.70]
  4. Run-of-the-mill fighting and stripped-down strategy sequences make Shaman King a fairly drab ride that's only recommendable to extreme fans of the series.
  5. Nothing about the game is appealing or enjoyable at all. Of course, the saving grace for all mediocre fighting games is the two-player mode, so- wait- there's no two-player mode? Who releases a fighting game without a two-player mode??
  6. 50
A wholly inadequate inexperience that offers no real gameplay, unless periodically jumping between pressing square a thousand times constitutes a new type of strategy or action I'm unfamiliar with.
  7. It's not an awful game, just shallow and aimless. [Feb 2005, p.83]

Shaman king: Power of Spirit attempts to combine turn based strategy with a fighting game and offers a mediocre to poor experience. The gameShaman king: Power of Spirit attempts to combine turn based strategy with a fighting game and offers a mediocre to poor experience. The game spends its first half trying to emulating the anime only to go on a severe tangent that to my knowledge has nothing to do with the source material. The fighting feels really stiff, and usually results in backing an enemy into the corner to thwack away at them with your sword. If time had been spent making this a purely turn based game I could image it being much better, cause some of the strategy elements work fine, but there's not enough of it. The manga style cut scenes are very text heavy and boring. Too much information is thrown at you and will disengage a casual player. Even for fans who can withstand having information they already know regurgitated at them, it diverges too far from the shaman king story for it to be of interest and feels like it had originally meant to be a completely different game altogether .
