  • Summary: While Creative Assembly's "Total War" games emphasized the player as commander (the General), Spartan: Total Warrior puts the player in control of a heroic warrior. Spartan: Total Warrior engulfs the player into the midst of titanic clashes between mighty armies, blending mythical beasts and legendary monsters into the fray. Brutal combat meets epic warfare on the battlefields of the ancient world as you fight for your life, your freedom and your honor. Take up arms against the ruthless Roman Empire and fight alongside loyal allies as your skill at combat and your mastery of the art of war allows you to single-handedly turn the tide of epic battles. Wade into the thick of battle with intense combat featuring a wide range of moves, multiple melee & missile weapons, combos, spectacular special moves, finishing moves, blocks, shield charges and evasive manoeuvres. From arid wastelands to full scale cities, through dungeons to rugged mountains, and finally to the ultimate showdown in the Imperial Coliseum in Rome, the titles environments are massive. 1. Mythological hack and slash epic. [Jan 2007, p.106]
  2. Most games lose their luster after you've killed the 999th warrior, but Total Warrior keeps things fresh throughout the journey.
  3. We weren’t particularly bothered that we had to wait while our health/power gauge increased slowly, but what we didn’t like was the fact that Spartan couldn’t protect himself at all when praying at the statues.
  4. Combined with the recent God of War, a pattern seems to be developing: the gifts Ares bestows come at the cost of a clad torso. [Dec p.88]

This is by far one of the best examples of a hack-and-slash that requires you to use your brain and not just button mash. People may complain about it being too hard or that there is no strategy element. Well, true, the game may be challenging, but it that not what makes a game? And if it's too hard, lower the difficulty rating. At first glance, yes, this may appear as yet another hack-and-slash game, but if you play through it and use all of the options at your disposal during combat, you'll discover that there actually is a tactical side to battles and not just button spamming. A truly unique action strategy game. This game flows like all great games should, and as the difficulty ramps up, you'll find yourself rising to the occasion. It's addictive in the "I'll get you THIS time!" sense. Expand

This game really is shit, I have played alot of games like this before, but this game doesn't compare. The voices are crap its unrealistically quick and its button bashing for the fighting, no skill is involved at all. Hint, do not buy this game. Expand
