While the controls on the PS2 are easily the best out of any of the other console incarnations, they still can't save this game from succumbing to it own horribly boring repetition.
  2. If you really, really love Spider-Man and have a high tolerance for dismal graphics and repetitive gameplay and the PS2 is the only game system you have in the house, then go ahead and check this out...maybe as a rental. Or get the NDS version. You'll have infinitely more fun.

A decent enough action-adventure in the vein of GTA and Crackdown. Spider-Man's web-slinging abilities are depicted very well. Go for the Xbox 360 version, the rest are not worth your time. [June 2007]

The only decent fights and objectives that are there follow the main storyline like a stalker - everything else is just busywork filler. [July 2007, p.112]
  5. Spider-Man 3's biggest problem is that it has a camera and framerate that makes the game nearly unplayable.
  6. With downright ugly graphics, minimalist music, an underwhelming use of voice acting and some of the sloppiest controls ever, keeping this last-generation version of the game in one's collection can only be justified if they lose the receipt.

Despite a huge citiy and a great swinging mechanic with which to get through it, Spider-Man 3 is repetitive and disappointing. [June 2007, p.90]

Totaly overrated, a complete downgrade from Spider-Man 2. The graphics are worse than Spider-Man 2! It also lacks the ragdoll physicsTotaly overrated, a complete downgrade from Spider-Man 2. The graphics are worse than Spider-Man 2! It also lacks the ragdoll physics Spider-Man 2 had, the citizens look like giant bugs, when you go to the Sky the game looks like Star Fox, for snes! This is just a rushed game for a horrible movie, i rather play Sonic next Gen or SuperMan 64. Full Review »

I remember being pretty disappointed about this title after thoroughly enjoying the previous title (probably my favourite PS2 game of all timeI remember being pretty disappointed about this title after thoroughly enjoying the previous title (probably my favourite PS2 game of all time at that as well). In this title, the music was terrible, simply jumping in and out incoherently in relation to the environment you were in. The gameplay was hit and miss, sometimes good but you could tell with the movements of Spider-Man that the movement was nowhere near as fluid as the previous one - this game felt rushed. The graphics was the biggest downgrade, absolutely awful, dull and lifeless compared to the previous titles. Really surprising really, as this was a medium I thought at the time they should improve on as time went by.

On the positive side, I do remember enjoying the transformation to black Spider-Man and reaping the benefits of the awesome power he had - particularly fun when fighting enemies as it really made a huge difference. The story was also alright too, a lot of villains in this one if I remember correctly.

All in all, the game was nothing special for me. It was nowhere near as good as Spider-Man or Spider-Man 2.
